Si,

Very nice start on the rigging. Did you use line and not rods this time? If so I believe this is the first time I seen you use line.

Mark

Hi Mark,

It is wire, but not copper, heavier than the usual stuff, but then that works for the stays as they would be beefy bits of rigging.

Thanks for looking in mate

Cheers

Si,

I just noticed the sections of brown linoleum deck with the brass retaining strips - I hadn't realized the Imperial Navy was using this practice as far back as Mikasa'a era. Interesting.

Anyway, I am continuing to enjoy your build, and with the rigging started she's really coming together!

Hi Tim,

I have no cast iron evidence to say that is right, but looking at the etched cladding for the gangways that's what the detail looked like.

If I am wrong it is too late to do much about it, if I am honest, I can live with it.

thanks for looking in, always appreciated.

Last weekend's update.

The foredeck.

The two anchor handling davits, a small section of etched chain added.

The three bower anchors fitted in place.

Fitting the cables, no shackle is provided in the Pontos set, so some thin metal rod was bent to shape.

The foredeck railings are etched with no gutter rail, just tittle "feet" that need to bent through 90 degrees.

The first section in place.

Before the railings could be completed, the open gunport covers on the main 6" had to be fitted.

Stream anchors, one on each side.

Fitted along with the boat boom.

The railings done, the "feet have been painted in to match the deck hull, also the davits have been fitted.

This also shows the cable runs, with the cable for forward anchor running from the forward hawse pipe outside the cable for the spare anchor sitting aft of it.

More soon.

Cheers

Si

Nice idea Russ,

Just the table for it to sit in on, depends on the cost of a custom Perspex cover for her (the ship not Mrs Duster ), otherwise there would be the danger of her being dusted.

Thanks for looking in Mate.

On to the stern.

bits and pieces to go on. (boat booms, stream anchors and boats)

Boat boom fitted in place, not easy to spot, but below the Iron ladders next to the gun port.

The etched rigging in place, along with a stream anchor (hiding under the Admiral's walk).

Stern railings in place.

Open gunport hatches on maindeck level fitted.

Next jobs.

stern davits, painting seaboats, jack & ensign staffs, lower deck open gunports.

Cheers

Si.

Thanks Russ & Mark,

Still a bit of a way to go, the boats and their davits, Admiral's walk, topmasts, extended torpedo nets, and a few things I have likely forgotten.

Today's progress.

There the four pairs of etched davits that carry the quarter boats straight off the fret.

In hindsight the background for these wasn't brilliant, bit I didn't to move them around to much, the bend point at the lower end is very fragile.

The first one bent to shape & test fitted.

All eight davit test fitted, yes I know some of them are a bit wonky, but no glue was harmed in taking this photo.

The railing for the Admiral's walk bent to shape with the top rail fitted.

Painted and fitted in place,

The davits & davit bars painted, and the basic paint job on the boats.

The washes & dry brushing on the boats, oars have been added to the uncovered boat, the tiller sat on rear seat was made from an etched paddle with a whole drilled in it, shortened and shaped.

As I said in my last post, there were "a few things I have likely forgotten" well this one of them, the etched rigging on the Pontos fret for the davits on the gangway.

Painted & ready to go, these are going to be fun to get in place!

Hope to have another update later this week.

Cheers

Thanks Mark,

The Pontos PE and turned brass is well designed, which is a great help.

The rail for the Admiral's walk was sprayed with Citadel Chaos black, and the top rail picked out in a citadel brown, with their usual funny names, their paints are very useful as they are designed to be very forgiving when applied with a brush.

Appreciate you looking in.

Cheers
