For small areas of planked deck like these, I like to keep my hand in with the hairy stick, particularly when there is such cleanly engraved and defined planking to help the wash to take.

Two days in the office, and I still got something done.
Gloss black wash added to the bridge windows.
Some veteran parts left over from the Bismarck build.
these will spruce up the bridge, along with some voice pipes.
The midships superstructure basic assembly.
The WEM etched bridge wing supports, which are an excellent fit, test fitted in place.
I have no evidence either way whether the eagle was painted over at this time, there are photographs of Zerstorers going into 1941, with the eagle in place and not overpainted.
An overview of where the build is today.

Looking very nice, Si! Do you have good bridge pictures? Last time I built a type 36(a Mob) I didn't have any idea about the setup at the base of the signal halyards, and still have no clue. I pretty much fudged it and wasn't overly happy with the result.
I have shots from outside of the bridge, but very little from the inside.

That hull would cut through a calm sea beautifully, wouldn't fancy it in the short steep swells of the Norwegian Sea though.

I have the Kagero 3D book on Z37, a later beast, that shows three halyards coming down from each forward yard arm to the bridgewings just in front of the boat handling crane, and four from the each rear yard arm to the rear of the bridge wings, wit a flag locker where each set comes down. that is pattern I will be going for.
will "borrow" gaps in the phtos I do have from this as well.

Work on the bridge, the left over veteran parts a re a great improvement on the kit offerings.
some voicepipes and boxes from scraps of plasticard, they need light wahs to bring it all out.
a few more details added after the bridge structure was glued down.
midships superstructure details and the decks painted.
An overview of the build so far.
One of the weak points, the rangfinders, completely lacking in detail and unfortunately I have no spares from either Trumpy or Dragon.
Ah well, another test of the old superdetailing skills.

The Veteran Sets make a huge difference as I have found on the Bismarck. Pity about the Range Finders but Veteran do make a great SEt if you are prepared to buy some for this Build Si.....Cheers mark

I agree, I do like their stuff, pity it can tricky to get hold of in the UK, Starling Models carries some, ordering from the far east it can months to get here.
Failing an easy availability, I will be doing a little detailing of my own. The new AOTS on the Bismarck has nice drawings.

Test fitted in place, looks like they might be a little tight with the etched ladders.

Those PE boat racks are a big improvement over the kit racks. Nice job getting them together. Sometimes the PE assembly can be a pain to get squared.

Usual good design from WEM did help with these. Nice etch for the motor boat on the fret too, as the kit parts aren't the best.

Simon: Did you say you used Tamiya XF20 on that hull? Never thought of using that color, but looking at your pictures and comparing the XF20 it appears to be a dead on match for Dunkelgrau 51 from the AK Interactive German DKM paint set I purchased today. Learn something new every day.
She is coming along nicely. When are you going to start on the River Class frigate? No excuses now. The Red Duster Yard can always build another slipway.

That I did, I reckoned the contrast looked about right, and from my seafaring days, especially as a cadet, where much chipping, painting and greasing was done before I was allowed anywhere near the bridge, I learned how quickly paint weathers and fades. so I believe in the old RN system TLAR (That looks about right).
I have not made up my mind on what is next, I may continue the Norway theme with HMS Glowworm, from the WEM kit, may be the River. Those are the two most likely candidates.
