It is Yellow, I think the colour balance on the camera needed a tweak. Kriegsmarine units taking part in operation Weserubung, the invasion of Norway had their turret / gunhouse roofs painted yellow as additional air recognition.

Mark: None of the Dragon 1/350 offerings were in Norway in 1940.
Trumpeter has a Z-7 in 1/700 that was in Norway, but evidently was plagued by engine trouble

Hi Mark,
It appears the Yellow turret tops for the destroyers were only used for the invasion in 1940, although according to some sources the Z30 did have the entire gun shields painted yellow in the summer of 1942.
I think Trumpeter produce that vessel though.

Some progess this weekend.
Etched details on the aft superstructure, I am not sure about the door, but it seems like the logical spot for it.
Boat cranes fitted, still need a coat of paint.
Rather than have this end up on the shelf of shame, I decided to fit the existing 37mm, at least until U can get some Veteran replacements, or her 1st refit.
Actually they don't look too bad.

The kit parts are rather good for standard IM part.
The only thing is the barrels look a bit short, might just replace those, will see after she has been around a few shows and comes in for a refit.

Good point Mark,
I will do that. I struggled with that etch when building the Bismarck, (hence I replaced the mounts) but with a good optivisor the old eyes could cope.

Quick update from the weekend.
The 20mm, on the left the kit part, on right, upgraded with some scrap etch.
The forward and midships rangefinders in place, left over Dragon parts.
The after upper deckhouse in place, along with it's mast.
Basic parts of the foremast together.
The topmast has wandered off somewhere, not an issue that a bit of scratch building won't cure.

Sometimes it is nice to do a fairly straight forward build. Still got the rigging and a few other bits and pieces to go.

Hi Mark,
I am pleased with the outcome, the barrels are a bit short, but I can live with this. Any etched frets with unused light AA parts definitely go in the spare etch box.

Simon while we are still in Narvikland I thought I might inquire of you or anyone if the German Navy had some sort of tannish (like AfriKa Korps sand) anti skid paint that they used on the steel decks of DD's during WWII.
The question is prompted by the box art on the Dragon Z31, where the artist applied some mid shade of a sand color. Could be the lighting effect the artist wanted to portray,but it just made me wonder, as most of all the other navies had some sort of anti-slip provision on their steel decks,

I haven't come across this sort of colour being used on steel decks of destroyers or any other KM warships from any reliable source. In Norway it wouldn't have been the best deck colour as camo against they grey cliffs of the Fjords.
Any other input welcome.

Finally, last weekend's progress.
The mainmast all etched up.
The replacement topmast with the WEM etched Yardarm fitted.
Sprayed, detail painted, searchlight fitted, again a Dragon spare part.
The WEM etched yardarm fitted to the vestigial mainmast.
