That paint makes such a difference, brings it all together. Nice update Jan.

Gents,
thank you very much once again for looking in and following and for your kind comments!
Real life these months is really dominating and bench time very short.
Well, for the most part, real life deals with the 1:1 'copy' of my model, so that's fair enough...
I did manage a little on the 1:700 though:
First real error in the kit, here the PE that covers the flight deck. It is exactly 1 mm too short, so I assume it's not an incorrectness but a straight error in taking measurements or number glitch when programming their tools...
I cut a 1 mm stripe of PE, sanded it into shape and placed it right behind the hangar doors. I plan to put one of the Helms on the flight deck in the end, so it should be sufficiently concealed.
All glued in place - the shape of the stern again fits perfectly!
Then I decided the color I mixed for the upper non-skid decks was way too dark. Well, decision was augmented by checking with the original...
So I lighted it up and gave all the upper decks that are of the dark color - not only the non-skid is painted dark - a first coat of color. I'll have to mask the deck in the next step an re-paint most of the light grey parts, as I have to re-do the boot stripe. But slowly it's taking shape.
And that pretty likely was the last update for several weeks, all November will be 'playtime' with the 1:1...
Thanks all for looking in and commenting, I hope you keep watching this despite it's slow pace...
Cheers

Jan,
What poor design work by the makers of the PE deck. 1 mm at 700 scale is a lot of error. Nice recovery you made with closing that gap but wasted time you had to spend to recover from their error. Enjoy your time with 1:1.

Jan, I second what Mark said: such a surprising error by the makers of the PE!
Nonetheless a great recovery!
I have to confess, after seeing the pic revealing how small the model actually is was a surprise! The quality of the molding deceives the eye into thinking it's much bigger than it actually is!
All the best, mate, for your time with the 1:1 copy and hope to see more on the 1/700 soon!

Gentlemen,
thank you for watching and commenting! I'm still underway and doing 1:1 business, due to multiple crew / crew change concept I'm in charge of the F224, while the F225 is still in Hamburg.
I got some pictures from the shipyard I'd like to share with you, pulling into Kiel on 01 November and 'meeting' of three of the class, F222, F223 and 'my' F224 in the Baltic, steaming in formation and PHOTEX. Yes, colors are tru, no photoshop etc., we really had that light/weather. All the pictures are © thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, but free for private use and share; ThyssenKrupp kindly requests to be mentioned as copyright if pictures are shared.
So that's instead of an update to the 1/700 one, I hope to get some bench time again first weekend of December. And I'll try to catch up with all your fine builds here on MSW during the next days/week or so...
Thanks for looking and enjoy the 1:1 pics!
Cheers

Nice pics Jan, great to see frigates in numbers. Hope they inspire you with your scale build.

Awesome pics, mate!
Great to see all three in formation like that! Not long till F225 joins in, I hope!
PS. Interesting that the pics are copyright to Thyssenkrupp, as opposed to the German Navy. I guess that's the corporate nature of our world now. (Does remind me of the difficulties we've had with a certain other "ship builder" of late )

Dear all,
thank you very much!!
Still busy with 1:1, hope to get at least a little bit bench time the next weekend.
Well, copyright by the shipyard is ok - it's still their ship for some time....

Dear all,
thank you so much for your kind comments once again and sticking with me!! That's just great and helps keeping up the motivation in times where there simply is almost no bench time...
Brief update, started touch ups and painting some details, will need more touch ups and a little more work with the windy stick though. But I'm quite happy with how the paint turned out.
Cheers
