Seems odd to see a Liberty without the gun platform fw'd but she's looking good nonetheless

Si,
very nice, clean and swift work! And, even if in a somewhat different way, once more out of the beaten path, quite as Russ remarks.
Very nice!
Cheers

Thanks Jan,
Always fun to do something different with a kit, and finding the photograph of a Liberty in the colours of a former employer, Iit just had to be done.
Quite a few changes to come, so it will be challenging.
Always glad to have you looking in.
Cheers

The peacetime careers of the Liberties is often forgotten, some tramped round the world into the late 60's.
In no way trying to ignore the massively important wartime role.

A little progress last weekend.
The forward gun platform had the crutches for the derricks serving No.1 hold, with the gun platform, with that gone more standard crutches needed to be scratchbuilt, they are very simple structures.

etch going on No.2 and 3 hatches, test fitted in place.

The crutches fitted in place, with the derrick booms.

Also visible is the spare anchor on it's bracket, which has the crutches for No.2 hold's derrick.
rigging the stowed booms next.
Cheers

Thanks Dave,
Quire a few changes from the wartime fit, not just removing the guns, notably around the superstructure.

A bit more progress.
No.2 & 3 hatched detailed up, and the winches assembled.

The kingpost that sits between 2 & 3 holds assembled pout of the box.

The modified and fitted to the etched deck house along with vents.
[Imgur](https://i.imgur.com/8DLHyNn.jpg)
Base coated.

The hatches and the spare anchor fitted.

derrick booms and walkways fitted.

An overview.

The derricks for No.3 hold sit on cradles on the boat deck, which is why they have yet to be fitted.
Cheers

It is that Russ,
The Liberties would have had hatch covers made of wooden boards, covered with a large tarpaulin to make it weathertight. The tarps are secured to the hatch coamings with wedges, and then the canvas straps across the top, tightened with a ratchet system built into the centre.
It was a labour intensive process, opening and closing these hatches, but the structure was simple and easy to repair if damaged.
Modern General Cargo ship hatches tend to be mechanically opened steel slabs.

The front of the superstructure and the upper bridge with their wartime details, protection and gun tubs.

and removed.

Both upper & lower sections assembled.

both sections test fitted.

Not bad a fit all round.

although Trumpy didn't do a great job on the hull halves, they did a really good job on everything above the upper deck

The multi-piece deck was a real pain to remove the seam.

Hi Russ,
Never did like there horizontally split hulls, great if you want build waterline, but not so good for building full hull, unless they have lots bulkheads to keep everything rigid.
