The Admirable class was the largest and one of the most successful classes of minesweepers that served during World War II. They served mostly with the US Navy with 24 of 123 boats built being assigned to the Soviet Navy as well.

USS Sangamon (CVE-26) was a Cimarron class oiler that was converted to an Auxiliary Aircraft Carrier of a class that bared her name. Sangamon was laid down as the Esso Trenton on 13 March 1939 in Kearny, New Jersey. In early 1942 she was designated for conversion to an auxiliary aircraft carrier and arrived in Hampton Roads in February 1942. She was reclassified as AVG-26. before receiving the escort carrier designation of CVE in1943.

In 1966 the film The Sand Pebbles", starring Steve McQueen, was released and was received with multiple award nominations and future director Richard Attenborough won an Oscar for best supporting actor. Coming up for the films 50th Anniversary of it's premier, Loose Cannon Models has released diorama set based on the movie.
