Thanks to Steven International (the U.S. importer of Trumpeter), we can now bring you the advance news of what to expect in your Hobby Stores in Fall 2006...
A new carrier and EIGHT sets of 1/350th scale Carrier Aviation sets are due for release in Fall 2006:

Beginning with the New Carrier:

5732 1/700 USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 Aircraft Carrier

The Lincoln is America’s fifth Nimitz-class carrier. Deployed in 1991 in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and later off the coast of Somalia in 1993. In 2002 the Lincoln’s entire carrier battle group and airwing helped deliver the opening salvos and air strikes in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A total of 16,500 sorties were flown during that 10 months, and 1.6 million pounds of ordnance were used. Kit consists of 647 parts on 31 sprues, a photo etch mast and markings for CVN-72, 2004. Completed kit measures nearly 19” long.

Finally, the Carrier Aviation sets, all are 1/350th scale:

1/350 Aircraft Sets, suitable for use on TSM #5607 USS Saratoga Aircraft Carrier and other 1/350 carriers or dioramas. Each set contains sprues to make 6 aircraft, and includes markings for the US Navy.

That's SOO tempting!!!! I've wanted to do a 1/350 Lex/Sara in pre-war garb, just as you did. Now that I won't have to scratchbuild/convert the aircraft, that is going to be tough to stay away from. Gotta keep looking at my stash in the basement and remind myself I STILL got things ahead of this one. Tom

I think I hear somebody nashing their teeth at the thought of all the time and work they put in doing 1/350 planes from scratch like this, only to have Trumpeter comes out with them. It's the same old story, if you build it they will make it.

Actually Rodger it is quite the opposite. I plan on purchasing a set of the Vindys and Buffs. The will look much better and I'll even get the full set of decals for each aircraft. Tom just wait a bit as the SARA will be done circa 1934, so you won't have to go back and backdate anything.

I am just a stupid land lubber. I am unfamiliar with those 1/350 planes.

Alan: Almost all those aircraft are prewar US Navy aircraft. The Buffaloe did see some service as did the Vindicator during WW2 with non US forces. The preponderace of the aircraft are bi-planes which are between the wars

Man, do you know how HARD to resist that's going to be??? And me with a huge stash already not to mention the fact that SWMBO, was less than thrilled about all the hours I spent in the basement working on the Missouri. I haven't had the heart to get started on my next Los Angeles Class for DDD2 Tom

You should have done what my buddy Moezilla did. He convinced his wife to come along to the Squadronfest a couple of weeks ago to meet me and Keith. She saw all those busts and figures and fell in love. She dragged Moe to the Squadron shop the next day to get some. Of course now he faces the same problem I did when I was married to Tracy. Everytime I bought a modelkit her response was "Where's mine?!" I got her building dioramas of ancients and fantasy stuff

I've been searching the web but found little outside WW2 ... Thanks, John
