I was a bit hesitant with this stage as it meant removing large pieces of plastic on a part that had already had lots of delicate bits glued to it. But so far so good although the filler I used for the large holes shrunk a fair bit, but it is supposed to be for seams, not gaping chasms!
I just put some more filler over the top of the last application. I like this filler as you can actually remove excess very quickly with fine wet n dry and water.
Back to the bench..

I patched the holes with sheet plastic from the inside, filled the remaining deckside holes with evergreen strips and smoothed it all off with putty. Looks rather dire when you have just removed the original pieces though,

Just a quick one, Griffon do not supply enough of part P19 when you are installing four depth charges. I have emailed them already. Six is a fair number to be short... And any idea what a ground mine would be doing on an MTB?

It's on on on with the depth charges even though I have not heard back from Griffon regarding the shortfall problem. The ends of the depth charges are not too bad in plastic..
Even though you get more free sinkholes in each one. But PE is better so the ends have some surgery carried out on them to remove the plastic detail. ({lease note that no depth charge ends were harmed during this surgery
)..
Then a few holes are drilled in each piece to locate the PE parts..
The rings are the missing parts. And I filled the sink holes with CA.
Next you build the latches that hold the release cables in position..
And here is a piccy of all the parts for the depth charges that have been produced so far before any assembly of the frames occurs..
And that's it so far,
Best regards
Warren

Warren, Check out the jewelry making section of any arts and crafts store, they usually have some small sized rings that might be useful if Griffon doesn't come through. If you can find the right size they might even be an improvement over the flat PE ones.

Hi there Al!
Thanks for dropping by.
I had been thinking exactly the same thing. Great minds think alike.
Just a matter of finding the right rings.
Cheers mate

Hello Daniel.
Glad you could take a break from your RC building and drop by.
Sometimes I think I would love to build a kit with lots of PE and leave the PE in gold colour. It looks so good!

That is exactly what Tim Biddiscombe did with his Yamato build, first building it with PE before painting everything. It looked really brilliant.

Tried making new rings from scratch with brass wire or solder?
Funny they got the number required wrong though. Sort of thing that is really irritating.

Al suggested jewellery stuff and if Griffon don't get back to me I may try that.
When I was at school I remember making bangles and necklaces out of copper links we made, but they were slightly bigger than 3mm..
A hint for later Julian, don't follow the order Griffon suggest you build the depth charge racks. You will fail!

Well it is time for another update!
All today, well yesterday and last night, were spent on the depth charges and their racks.
First up we have a couple of the small parts used to hold the release ropes..
Then we have a rack..
Julian, when you are building the racks glue the ends to the bottom part first rather than the top part as suggested by Griffon. The top parts has only the width of the PE to attach to whereas the bottom parts have a good area. It is much easier to glue them on first THEN the top part later.
Also, lining up the sides and the brace can be fun but you can make it much easier by using one of the supplied 0.5mm copper wires to line it all up. Just a hint.
Then we have the assembled depth charges. Note that the two ends are different..
And six of those little rings is what is missing from the PE set. I could just go and buy some jewellery links on Ebay but that is not the point. They should be supplied.
Still haven't heard back from Griffon..
Cheers
Warren
