Thanks Bruce, i went through this build so quick i forgot to take more in progress early shots i will do that next time for now that's all i have.
Vulcan 20 the colors for the ammo belts are FolkArt 664 Metallic copper acrylic and Testors Model Master Gold enamel for the cartridges, you are correct about the twin 50 turret ammo belts what happens is Tamiya only gives you 2 small parts that do not resemble ammo cans but i used them anyway once glued to the belts and installed i could not get them to make the tight turn into the guns so i had to cut them off short and glue them in. This was my first plastic boat kit and i didn't want to start scratch building parts.

Looks great, Robert! A really nice entry into the campaign. I know how you feel about building fast. I have been on a true building frenzy this weekend I finished a Sturm Tiger for a campaign on Armorama, but still had time to work on my M113 while the paint dried on the Sturm Tiger

Last week I went to the local DIY stores to find some clear plastic. No luck So what to do? As a former infantry sergeant you of course improvise. I went to the hyper market and started looking for clear plastic packaging that could be used as a small base for my diorama. I found it in the form of.......Russian Cheese!!

It had just the right size and depth and the plastic was clear enough to see through. The cheese even tasted quite well as well So after washing the packing I tested it with the M113 in place.

Next was the task of adding a mix of brown paint, fine pigments, white glue to form a base. Next leaves, green foliage, branches, rocks etc. were added. The base should not be a river as such, but more like a flooded area during the rainy season.

Now I am waiting for all of it to dry before I move on with more work on the M113 and the base. Before any resin water is added the vehicle should be more or less finished.

Comments welcome

Thanks for the comments, Kenny and Robert
It is a very eye catching camouflage used by the Koreans in Vietnam. They also used a very colourful and large Tiger insignia on the front plate although that must have been a very good aiming point for RPG gunners.
They also added a heart shaped shield for a small add on .30 Cal. Strangely enough they did not add any armour shield to the commanders .50 Cal. That would have been a very exposed position.

Anyway, my next update will show these additions to the model.

Hi Jesper

The M113 is looking very good, I am very impressed with the cammo on the sides, very tidy.
Are you going to pour in the model 'water' with the kit in place or insert it afterwards?

Best Regards
Dus

Hi Dus

I am going to put in the water with the kit in place. The water I am using is not the "pour in" type, but the thicker "smear on" resin type. It takes a loooong time to dry, but looks pretty good when finished.

Here is a couple of pictures with the markings added. Quite colourful. Those Koreans were not affraid of not being camouflaged

Gents:
Hopefully below will be a test shot of the "Mini-Pibber" under construction. This is actually a test for me to check procedure.

But we need more shots of the boats under construction, Gang.

Enjoy...................Semper Fi, Bruce

Hi Bruce

Is that a scratchbuild? What scale mate?
I do agree with your comments on in build pics.
I am grateful to all those of you who have shown what they are building so far.

Well, I guess I should at least post a photo of my sampan.

Now I need to find a few other figures. Unfortunately the DML figures are like giants next to these two small stature Verlinden figures, so the search continues. If anybody has any spare small stature Vietnamese figures they aren't going to use, let me know and we can work out something.
I also used a different primer than my normal Floquil. I picked up a bottle of Tamyia's primer in the square bottle, thinned with lacquer thinner and airbrushed it on. Really sprayed nicely with a super fine grain. I'll probably be switching to it after I finish up my supply of Floquil.

Hi Dave
The only small vietnamese figure that springs to mind is the young lady included in the Academy M113A1 kit.
Those sampans are smaller than I always thought them to be. Are they well cast Dave?
Thanks for the tip on the primer.

Ahoy Crew,
Just a quick update for all. The PBR (Hopefully) will be a Mark II, and this is being built in 1/144th scale. The figure has not been "modified" yet. Attached is a quick photo to show some progress. The back deck plates have been added, as well as some of the engine hatches, and the deck house is just starting to be formed. The dark gray is epoxy filler. (I use A-4 Metalset - impregnated with aluminum - absolutely no shrinkage)
So we will see how this project comes out. Semper Fi, Bruce

Hi Dave,

Nice build of sampan. The sitting figure seems can only fit in the small (forward) sampan sideway. What are you going to do with these sampan, stand alone or in diorama? Are you going to arm the bigger sampan to a "what if" VC gunboat?

Hi Bruce,

Nice build on your PBR, pretty good back deck and pretty good shape of cockpit. What material do you use for the twin .50 Cal guntub? Are you putting your PBR in a diorama? If I get time this weekend, I need to start on my PBR and post some in progress photos.

1/144th scale! I wouldn't even dare try to scratchbuild something that delicate. It looks marvellous Bruce, well done so far mate.

Very nice guys.

Hey Dave, will the large sampan have a Johnson or Mercury outboard?

I'm actually going to have the figures in the larger sampan, towing the smaller one.
Gunny, the other Verlinden VC figures just won't work, as I'm aiming for a very serene scene, of a little VC family out doing a little VC quality time. I'll try converting a few 1/48th figures to little VC nippers in knickers.
Mommy and Daddy and crew.
Gator, just a one pole propulsion system on these.
Dus, the casting are really good.

Hi all

Got rolling with my PBR2, however, having some fit issues from the start!
Has anybody else had trouble with fitting the fore deck? However I place it I seem to have gaps

Oh well, thank the Lord for filler

I have the girl from the Academy M113A1 kit if you are interested? Actually it is the kit I am building for this campaign and I will not be using the girl.

Dave those Sampans look nice should make a good build, Bruce your work on the PBR looks awsome and in such a small scale to small for my old eyes. Dus i had the same problem with the seam at the bow as you did, i used lots of liquid glue pushed the panel in firmly and that created a nice bead of soft plastic i than sanded and filled what was left with Tamiya basic putty good stuff.
