Hey all,

The start is here, the waiting is over. Now we can knock the dust off the boxes, open then up, and let the fun begin.

A trip to LHS may yield "knock the dust off the boxes" from the shelf and put a smile on store owner's face. Hope my LHS still have tamiya's PBR ... they used to keep old stuff ... very dusty ... LOL

Ahoy mates!

Well, so far this morning, I got the molded on anchors and ropes sanded off, with Lil' Gator's help.
I also have been doing some research on the color and it appears that at sometime the haze gray was painted over with olive drab.

In their haste, it looks as if they painted over the windows.

Now, to shave off those nasty life rings and make some new ones.

I'm still on the fence with this campaign. I did something like 5 or 6 last year as well as leading one and decided not to do anymore for a while I did sign up for the sisters campaign because of all the possibiities with all the kits I presently have. I have 6 months for this one so I may sign up and pop something out like a chopper or that LCM. Just need to finish up what I've got going on now and see where my mood takes me.

Hi guys, I am on for this one with a M113A1 ACAV. Yes, I am one of the armour guys getting ready to support the Riverine action

I am currently trying to find pictures for inspiration as my entry will be a small diorama - of course with muddy water on it...

Ahoy mates!

We have some high density foam sign board at work. I took a 7/8" hole saw and drilled part way through a scrap piece. Then I ran it through the table saw and presto, instant life rings. I still need to sand and shape them, but they will work.

One step closer, pulled the Huey kit from the stash and opened it up to look at the innards. I am fighting the urge to jump into that BR52 loco as I have some brass sets coming probably by the end of the week from Great Models. Unbelievablely, I ordered on Monday and they shipped it on Tuesday.

Hi Steve
Be good to see some air support on this campaign.
Must admit I am in the same boat (if you pardon the pun) regarding finishing something else off.
Before starting my PibberI have a Spanish Civil war AFV diorama to complete!

All the best

No, seriously...I was tempted.

I'm thinking I'm going to secure them on the back side with wire and dip them in paint and let them dry. That should give me a good smooth coat.

Here is an update on my build. Sorry the pictures seem a little dark due to the dark plastic.

We have had a lot of discussions over at the armorama forum about whether Vietnam M113s could be used to cross rivers etc. It seems like the US M113s were very seldomly used to cross waterways while Australian M113s were used more often. Also there are different opinions on whether M113s armed with ACAV kits and the 106mm recoilless rifle were actually amphibious.

Anyway, in the end I ended up being a sucker for the Korea camouflage and Tigers head insignia on the Korean version of the M113. (I will try to find a picture of this and post it)
Also I have decided to show the M113 in 2 to 3 feet water brown water, so there should be no need to discuss the whole issue of whether the M113 used its amphibious capabilities often or not.

The main construction is done now. Next is painting and work on the diorama.
My idea for the diorama is basically to construct a box of clear plastic, make some swamp seabed and fill in clear resin mixed with a little bit of brown paint. Any other suggestions are welcome.

My LHS does not have clear plastic, so I will have to try and find an alternative source.

I have made the M113 all closed up due to a number of reasons:
1) I wanted to show the box like shape of the M113
2) I want to show the M113 taking fire and doing water splashes
3) There are no Korean crew figures included

Shoot, the way I'm going it is quite likely I will be finished with my entry by the beginnng of August. I chose the Panda UH1D Huey for my entry. If you can find one of those kits (I don't know if it is OOP or not) I would recommend it. I guess the rivet counters could find some flawas with it, but the kit goes together real well. I got into a bit of a hurry to lay paint and didn't check the upper engine covers until after I had sprayed the almost built kit. Had to go back and sand and fill to cover the gaps.and then lay another coat of OD down. After that I got some of the Mr filler 500 goo and did a little more. I am pretty much down to putting doors and propellers on to complete assembly then lay out decals and then weather.

Home improvement stores, like Home Depot, usually have clear plastic window panel in various thickness and size. Another source is plastic shop. They can custom build display case as well as sell clear plastic, but a little bit more expensive than home improvement stores. Good luck on plastic hunting.
