All the above work if you click on them, so, these were taken indoors (kitchen worktop) I use a backdrop of artist's paper which I gave a washed out black daub to. Looks roug in reality but just right in photography.

I use a little tripod, or an upturned saucer. Th ebuild also sits on a saucer so that I can get the waterlevel shots. The camera is all auto, and on self-timer for a steady shot.

Very nice, Peter. I especially like the "sea-level" views. Excellent modeling; I've learned a lot and very much have enjoyed following it. Thanks!

Cheers, Barry, and me as well, I've learnt a lot - take it slowly, and get it right, never fear changing anything even at the last moment, and listen to your friends. I've also learnt great things from my fellow builders, and fotunately most have coincided with my build.

However, I still need to learn to post images properly - like Guido.

Thanks,

Peter F.

And now, and finally for this blog, here are the seaside shots - click on the image - for now.......

I take the build down to the sea, and if the cloud formations, and lighting is right then some really good shots can come out of it. In photography, lighting is everything, notwithstanding you can hold the camera straight, and if the clouds look really moody then great.

Last Sunday it started off raining in Lancing but then cleared up with some good clouds. By the time I got to the sea, 5 mins, they had nearly cleared off but there was some, just enough for the shoot, and that was that. Rather cautiously I hold the ship out in front of me, and use the camera with the other hand. I'm sure I can think of a better way of doing it but until then..........

Thanks everyone, and thank you Rui for the URLs, good work, and I shall make sure you have much beer at Telford.

Wow Britain got talent! And this is now I realize I didn't stayed as posted as i should! Your final steps really made your boat fly (or something), and then your pictures are fantastic, i agree with what's being said above, it's a real tutorial of how to make a great ship model, so thanks for this.
Well, sail in the sunset but come back again soon!

Very kind of you Frank but I must confess that anything I have presented here is the result of my friend's help, and people like yourself who welcome anyone who needs knowledge and advice. I find people all too willing to help, and this is why the hobby is great on more than one level.

Cheers,

And so, month 13, well you didn't think we had finished did you?

The competition is over, and that leaves the build to be "completed" as I originally wanted it. If you go back to page one of the blog, there is a sketch that shows Arabian dhows in the same scene as Averoff. This does two things - it gives depth to the composition, and scale. The dhow is understandable in terms of size whereas the Averoff does not have scale unless compared to the figures on board.

Next, is the colour issue. The warship is various shades of grey whereas the dhow can be bright and contrast with the monotone background. And then, there's the red sail on the dhow which creates a focal point to the piece. A three dimentional effect is the idea behind this, and the feeling of movement - "animation" - so, I continue................

The final version will be posted on various gallery sites as I do beleive this compettion is closed!

Thanks for watching.

Just awesome job Peter, well deserved winner! And those pics are to die for.... fantastic build all around. I thank you for taking the time to write a thorough blog; I learned a lot from your build (and that of others). Few choice parts have been copy/pasted for future reference. Will buy you a beer if you are ever on this side of the pond as 'royalties".
Cheers!
