Reporting aboard and introducing myself, this is my first group build and I just finished reading a book about the British CMB's and so I have decided to build the 55" CMB. I will scratch build it using real wood among other materials. I will try to figure out the photo thing.

Thanks for having me aboard.

Hello Dan,
First Welcome to the site and to this campaign.
Second the photo's posting is very easy. I use photo bucket(it is free) and upload all of my photos into it. When I want to load to the forms, Just bring up photo buck, Minimize it and the click on the reply button. When your reply comes up look for the [ing] bottom on the bottom of the reply message pad. It is on the far upper right. Then you just copy your photo http in it (delete the ing) ] to this [] Make sure you leave the brackets or it will not work. There is a tutorial on either site help forum or kitmaker network forum.
If you need anyhelp, Let me or the staff know.
Again, Welcome,
Cheers,
Bruce

Welcome, Dan!
Your project sounds great! Make sure to make a good photo coverage to quench our thirst for information!!!
What scale are you planning on? Since you want to use wood it's got to be bigger than the usual 700th or 350th!

Cheers,
Guido

Hello All,
So how is everything going? Any problems? Anything I can help with? I am here if anyone needs any kind of help, just let me know.
I have started getting the flash off of the model and I have ordered the slate gray paint.
I think that the deck is going to be a wood grain instead of gray. I also have ordered some figures for the deck crew.
I hope all of you have a safe, good and fun Thanksgiving.
Cheers,
Bruce

Gentlemen,

To make good use of drying time in another project I have been diving through my stash to find a project that may be finished in due time for this campaign.
I have decided to build the SMS Saida of the K+K navy. There is a good base of information to be found on the net about the ship and her sisters (SMS Helgoland, SMS Novara). You can’t really trust the picture captions on the net, they are mostly wrong but the differences between the ships are quite small.
The kit used is of the German defunct DOC Models or WSW. It contains only a hull and a handful of parts on wafers and no PE at all. Most of the parts will be replaced by details PittRoad, Combrig, Battlefleet Models and scratch building. PE will be taken from a variety of Lion Roar and WEM sets. The kit features resin masts which will be replaced by products from NNT and BMK.
The hull is straight and all cast structures seem in good alignment with the centreline. The measurement is correct. The cast on detail isn’t very pronounced, but mostly usable. There are a few cast inclined ladders, which will be replaced with PE. The hull lacks a number of portholes and the armour belt isn’t cast so well.

The hull is cast down to the waterline. Sine I will have the ship displayed at sea I need a little more hull underneath the boot topping line. So I glue a 1mm styrene sheet to the bottom, which then is shaped by Dremel and sanding stick to confirm to the lines of the hull. At the same time I remove the armour belt.

TBC

The only plans I could find for the 55' CMB are from Marine Modelling International Magazine, April 2004. The plans are 1/24 scale, which was too big for my taste so I settled on 50 reduction of the plans so 1/48 scale is where I am at right now if my calculations are correct. The frame and sheeting will be plank on bulkhead after that I will probably mix some brass tubing and plastic sheet with the wood to get the overall model.

I am also working on a 1/700 scale monitor HM Monitor #15 which is originally a card model but I have reworked it and I am currently working on scratchbuilding using sheet styrene plastics. I will post photos of that model as well.

Any help or suggestions are welcome

thanks

Dangrus

Well, my Audacious is about halfway through the fitting out process and the Liverpool will follow shortly.

Also, as I am close to finishing the second installment on my 4-stacker series (that one is set in WW2, however) I will move on to a Great War version for this campaign as the third part.

Hey Jim!

The Audacious will be completed in a matter of days and then I'll get along with the Liverpool. I was delighted to watch the documentary on the Audacious wreck off Ireland last week on the National Geographic channel!

Well, I had my model Audacious watch the program as well and she thought she was better rendered than their CGI!

Guys, I have heard that Bruce is back in the hospital...needless to say I have told them I will help out keeping his campaigns going for him, so thats why Im here in case you guys are wondering"whos this guy coming in here?"

Mark has generously offered to asist me in the more "computer intense" exercises that I simply dont have under my belt yet...and I say Thank you Capn!

His campaigns are VERY important to him ,as are all of you...please pray for him and Mary, or wish them well wishes at your choosing....and MODEL ON dudes! I think the greatest comfort you can give Bruce right now is to keep the thread active and flowing ..

I've been plugging away at my 1/400 German torpedo boat for a couple of days. It's a nice little full hull kit from Mirage. I cut the hull down to the waterline. I also modified the bridge so that you will be able to see the crew. The photoetch is a combination of the Mirage offering for this kit and railings out of the spares box. Overall length is 6.25 inches.

You're right, Kenny, that is a nice kit, though 1:350 would have been a nice complement to the old ICM Konig-class dreadnoughts.

Hello All,
@ Guido,
I know what ever you do, It will be a Master Build. Hopefully you will post your tips to us that take a model and make it look like Mr. Potato Head's ship. thanks for being in the campaign.
@ Karl,
Your builds are beautiful. I cannot wait to see your latest build.
@ Ken,
Good looking model. How is the Mirage kits? I have been thinking about getting some of them along with the old heller kits. Any thoughts about the Heller Kits?

I got home Monday. It seems that a heart valve decided to let go. I am doing fine, Miss Mary has keep my motorized wheelchair at one quarter power so I do not go to far. She has also taken all of my instructions out of all my kits and locked them up along with all of the paint, tools, etc till next Monday when I see my Docs. So no modeling for a week, Just rest and soap operas. I am going to bribe the Docs to let me start modeling again .
To all of you that have posted updates, thanks for being in the campaign.
Again thanks,
Cheers,
Bruce
