Finished the book at lunch... wow! What a great story! The chapters covering the opening attack on the Russian Navy and its facilities in the Black Sea, inlcuding the commando raid involving Zeppelin LZ 28 and the capture one of the Argo clocks and destruction of the other that were supposed to be installed in the Russian ship Imperatrica Marija which was under construction at the time. That whole story would make for a great action thriller movie!
SMS Konig update. I've assembled the forward funnel, including the PE funnel cap and am debating on whether or not to put the PE funnel rails on. They would really take the funnels up to the next level in terms of detail, however I'm getting a littler nervous with the end date of the build quickly approaching. LOL

Scott-
Good German! and "Verbindung" is the proper term for connection.
Eric-
This is in dispute.
The air recognition circles were invented for the fleet at home, but they may have been applied to Goeben on foreign station, as well. However there is no photographic evidence for them while she was making her turn through the Med.
When she was handed over to the Turkish Navy (almost immediately after her arrival in Istanbul) she did not have them on any photos.
I for one don't think that she receive new paint before the handover.
Cheers,
Guido

Guido - Ich bin halb Deutsch. Meine Mutter wohnt im Idar-Oberstein. Ich lebte in Deutschland 1979 bis 1986. Ich lebte 5 Jahre in Zweibrücken und 2,5 Jahre im München.
I have been doing a lot of research on the Goeben and collecting photos and have yet to come across any evidence of the Goeben having air recognition circles on the turret tops.

I started my Emden and looking at the GMM PE set, which is pretty comprehensive given its age. However, I cannot find WWI-style hatches PE replacements anywhere. Or maybe I should not worry too much and actually finish a model before the campaign deadline
The Revell kit actually has some nice surface detail. The hatches/doors are a simple rectangle outline.
Any opinions how to dress them up a bit? or leave alone?

I could have had dual citizenship, just like my mother, but ultimately I'm American so I made the decision when I was younger to just stay with that. Now I think it would have been cool to have done the dual citizenship thing but I'm not sure what the ramifications would have been, especially tax wise. LOL

Just a gentle reminder mates....keep in mind that we have only 13 days left until the end of this campaign (April 15th, EST), so if you're still building, get rockin', and if you are done, make sure that your completed build images have been uploaded into the "Finished Builds" folder at the Official Campaign Gallery, as this is how we determine who does (and does not) get their campaign ribbon!

Hello Mark,
Thanks for the reminder. I am not sure if I will get my build done. I have not even started it yet.
I hope all is well with you and yours,
Cheers,
Bruce

I still can't access the Gallery at all. Are there any new entries?
I am very curious!
What will happen, if the gallery doesn't come up with the ext week? It's been down for a while now!

Ahoy, mates,
As you have noticed, the Gallery has been closed for a bit by our fearless leader, Jim Starkweather, for some badly needed server maintenance...he is expected to be finished by Tuesday, April 13th, with this huge task, and if all goes well, the gallery will be up in time to post your finished builds...in the interim, you can use a temporary photo-sharing package (photobuket, etc) to share your build with us if you wish...sorry for the inconvenience!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Hey guys, sadly I'm not going to have my SMS König finished by the deadline. Thanks for letting me participate, this build ignited a passion for WWI ships so now I'm hooked! I'm going to keep it on my workbench and keep slogging along until it's finished. Nice work to those of you who finishd builds.

I submitted my entry's pics to Mark Smith as a feature. It's a depiction of the sinking of the dreadnought HMS Audacious. I hope to see it posted soon.
This campaign was a blast and I look forward to seeing more model's from that fascinating era.

A nicely run campaign on an interesting subject - personally it gave me the chance to build the Markgraf, a build I sure I never would have ventured into without the inspiration from the campaign.
