Greetings!
I've only joined MSW just today (5/11/2010). However, if it's not too late to join your "Ironclads" group, I'd love to add an ironclad that I find quite appealing, albeit in a strange way! What say you to my building USS Katahdin (ISW 1/350) as a member of your group?
I was going to join with USS Wyoming (BM-10), but, technically, I'm about 33% complete and, therefore, not within the giudelines.
Let me know what you think! This looks like a great site with AMAZING artists! Alas, I'm only slightly above the level of "assembler", but I do enjoy this hobby!
Many thanks in advance!
Daniel Chavez

Welcome Dan! ...I dont think we kick off the build until October of this year ..plenty of time to get more kits ..;-)...
I agree this is a great website..the people here are very freindly, knowledgeable, and ready to help with almost anything. Im sure you will see your skill levels rise exponentially if you start hanging about with the old salts around here ..

Welcome Daniel, glad to have you with us. I hope that you will enjoy this campaign, it is the first one I have ever hosted.

Don't worry about it. My main reason for only allowing very minimally started kits/projects is due to the fact that I have seen a campaign start and within 2 to 3 days someone posts pictures of a finished project that has obviously taken a lot longer than that to build. Besides.......how could I say no to a ship that is named after the state I live in!!??

Guido, how are you at creating banners? Your ribbon is awesome so I thought maybe I could talk you into creating a banner as well!!

Thanks everyone,
HARV

Many thanks to Jim, Guido, and Randy! I originally thought the "Ironclads" group was ending in October, 2010. Oops. That's why I was concerned about joining the group "late". Glad to hear I have a bit of time to conjure up materials and references, though!
I'll definitely be building the Katahdin. I appreciate the offer to add USS Wyoming (BM-10), but, after reading through the different group builds, I realized that she probably would be a better fit in the "Drydocked" group.
I guess I'm going to run on over to the "Stand By Torpedoes" group while awaiting the start of Ironclads and Drydocked. I'm going to build my first sub for that group, the Akula. I'm also considering adding the SMS Emden to the "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'" group and a big gun monitor to the "Big Guns" group.
Thanks again for allowing me in your group! I'm looking forward to this!

Glad to have you with us.
I am looking forward to the start of the campaign. Now if I could make myself stop enlisting in so many others........I keep thinking that I might not have time to take part in my own campaign!!
Once again welcome.

Hello Randy,
I think you need to have Mark change the thread title to Ironclad Campaign.
It is titled Campaign Official and does not say what the campaign is and you might more members to enlist with a new name.
I got an email about Campaign Official had had no idea what it was.

Cheers,
Bruce

Just a friendly little bump.

Just four more months to go and then the riveting can begin!!
Anyone else interested in enlisting? Plenty of room for others.
Thanks,
HARV

Just three months and counting until this one starts!!
Does anyone want to come up with some ideas for a banner? I would try but I wouldn't have an idea where to start to make one.
Thanks,
HARV

Ah yes, but there is that sweet anticipation that goes along with it!!

I am hoping to be finished up with the other four campaigns that I am enlisted in by then so that I can give my full attention to this one.

Hi, Harv!
I have my project set and ready to go:
It'll be definitely the SMS Rhein, a riverine monitor from Imperial Germany intended to protect the rivers Rhein and Mosel from French troops. It will be a full scratch build in 1/144 based on a card stock model. These ships were quite underpowered and were not able to go up-river on their own power in areas of strong current, so they had to be pulled by oxen. That's the scene that I intend to show.
There exists only one photo of these ships, so I'll have a lot of creative leeway. )
)
Since my club and I have received confirmation for our display space at Telford. I will hardly start be for the end of November, but I am looking very much forward to this build.
Cheers,
Guido

Currently looking through references, and starting work on drawings for a scratchbuild of either HMS Devestation 1872, or HMS Dreadnought 1879. (whichever I have / can find the better stuff on) 1/350th. a bit ambitous, but I reckon doable.
Unless of course i see something amazing, appropriate & interesting at Telford, in which case I will wimp out and build that.

Well it is the official start date for my very first time as a campaign host. So I thought I would show what I plan on building.

Definitely not the most detailed or accurate kit. And it is not going to require the amount of work the rest of you are doing. However as ships are not my normal area of model building I thought it would be alright.
So anyway let the riveting begin!!
I am looking forward to seeing everyone's projects and ideas.

I am a newbie to the site and just reentered the hobby after a long lay off. I am not familiar with exactly how the campaigns work and if there is a set expectation of skill level. I live in Virginia about 30 minutes from Hampton Roads so the first project I completed was the 1/200 Verlinden Monitor. After reading some tips on the site I figured I would make my first try at resin and a diorama scene. I would appreciate all possible insight into how the campaigns work so I could participate in the future . Many thanks.
Here are a couple of shots of my first project attempt.

Hey Everybody, A huge thanks to Harv for thinking this one up. In my opinion, very few things in life are cooler than a waterborne, armored, self-propelled gun platform!
So I checked my spreadsheet and I'm down to 50 campaigns I'm in. With a 1 in 4 completion rate...wah, wah, wah. But this one I've been waiting to do for a while, so here's where I'm starting

This is going to be cool...

Hi Scotty, welcome. Please feel free to enlist in my campaign. The more the merrier. To enlist just go to the top of the page and click on the GROUP BUILDS icon. When that page opens up, look on the right side of the screen and you will see several active campaigns. Just click on the icon for this one (Ironclads) and then go to the right of the page again and click on the enlist button above the names of those already enlisted. You can join a campaign at anytime. The main rules are that you wait until the campaign starts before you start your build. Once in awhile you can post an in-progress photo of your project if you wish. The other main rule is to finish your project by the finish date. My main rule is to have fun and enjoy yourself. There is no skill level expectation. I want all levels to enlist and enjoy themselves. I am an armor model builder but I wanted to do this for something different. So my skill level with a ship model will be lacking at best!! I will have a hard time not painting my project olive drab and adding a large white star to the side!! So if you are interested in joining please feel free to do so. I would be happy to have you. There are a great bunch of modelers on all of the KitMaker sites so feel free to ask if you ever have any questions.
Harv
Thanks Charlie, I am glad you like the campaign idea. There is just something cool about the ironclads as far as I am concerned.
Sorry guys, I can't comment on your photos at this time. I am at work and our computer system blocks most of the photos from sites such as Photobucket and others. So I can't see what you posted. I will have to take a look at them when I get home.
Thanks again guys and please feel free to enlist Scotty.
