I just thought I would give this a bump and see if there is anyone else working on their projects.

Thanks,

Harv,
I've been watching this group build from the sidelines. You did nice work on yours, and Simon is making a scratchbuilt work of art.
Maybe a year IS too long. You'll probably see some scrambling here in October! I myself might be in by then too.
Anyway, just a nod to this build. Chin up! You're not writing to nobody.
thanks,
Sean.

Not much actual progress on the build, working on sourcing some cowl vents of the roughly the right size & shape (Not proving easy and attempts to scratchbuild those have frankly not worked), and the layout of coaling hatches etc on the deck.

Will return to the palstic soon

Gentlemen,
checking my commitments in campagins for the next 12 months, I found my plate was quite too full and I have quit participating in a number of them, already. As well, I am tied in another project which will take up serious bench time over the next year or so and my own Seed of Death campaign. So my hand are quite full still. However I will honour my commitment to this campaign by building the Combrig Dunderberg in 1/700.
I will probably start within the month of May when having finished the wingy thingy which is covering the better part of my workbench right now.
Cheers,
Guido

Feel free to enlist Sean. The more the merrier!!

You did nice work on yours

Thank you. It isn't anything fancy but I enjoyed building it.

No problem Simon. I am really enjoying watching your project come to life.

No problem Guido. Hopefully you will find time to build it.

Please don't feel compelled to make this a "have to get it done" campaign. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and I don't care if I have to keep extending the deadline. I just want everyone to have fun.

Thanks guys,
Randy

this is what I'm planning to build just got it a week ago at show/convention. Plan on doing a waterline got to learn how to do water.

should be starting in the next couple of days. work time change traps closer together means less time on water and more time at bench

Apologies for the poor photograph, but I have at last made some more progress. Firstly i have added the sloping plates the go from the forward end of the breastwork deck to the maindeck and added the three broad steps to them. Not visible is some work on what I assume are 2 large air vents for the engine room on the quarterdeck.

Hi Randy!

Sorry for not posting anything as of yet! "Life" has been a blockade of sorts to ship-building. I'll be posting pre-work photos of the ISW USS Katahdin soon. I just finished my reconstruction of the USS Monitor (ISW 1/350) for the Drydock Campaign. Katahdin is next up on the Slipway.

Best wishes!

Daniel Chavez

Hi Harv,

Sorry but I am going to have to drop out of this campaign. Realistically I am going struggle to finish HMS Thunderer within the timescale of the campaign, and I am not going to rush the project, and risk mucking it up.

I knew it was a bit ambitious, but a few things have cut back my work bench time and I have sort of lost my way a bit.

I will move on with it, but without the pressure of a deadline I think I have more chance of success.

I will keep the board up date with progress, currently working on more research, and intend to to get back to building on her after the holiday season.

Will keep looking in on the campaign and keeping up with the other builds.

Good luck to all the rest of the campaingners

Simon,

Sorry to hear you want to drop out but don't worry about the time frame. Since there are only a few people involved in this campaign I am going to just toss out the end date if they will let me. I hate to see you or anyone else not be able to finish. So if you like please stay enlisted and just finish when you can. I will bounce this off of the powers that be and make sure I can extend the end date.

Hi Harv,

Thanks for your encouragement, will do and when I get back to her I will of course be positing updates.

Was just feeling the pressure of the deadline a bit too much on this one, and I do really want to finish her. (Along with too many pressures in real life restricting time at the workbench).

thanks again

Hey Everybody,
The builds are looking good so far! Simon, your work is too unique to stop. I think I speak for everybody that we want to see the finished product.
John, Great subject matter and you're real close to the point of origin and demise.
On a side note John, which Company and when? I earned a Black Beret too. Nothing aggravated me more than when they decided everybody gets to wear them. Of course I have a Maroon one and a Green one so I have those to fall back on if I ever decide to march in a parade or go Postal.

After a 4-5 month hiatus contending with a myriad of crap and a major move (in which we downsized from 2500 sf to 2100sf and a 4 car garage to a 2 car carport on the side of a small mountain) I'm finally starting to settle down.
I wanted to get back in the groove of this campaign and realized that my hull is still 175 miles away in a storage locker (oops).

I started with a set of plans for the Albemarle but changed to the Carondelet right before I started the cutting. Don't know why... just did! Then I scaled them up from a manageable, sensible 1/96 to 1/35. Why? Because I'm stupid that way. The coolness factor will definitely be there but I'm not exactly sure where it's going to be when I finish it. Wherever "that" is I'm sure the 1/72 Revell Gato/Cavalla will be sitting right next to it since they're close to the same length. The hull is shaped so, after some minor repairs, it'll be ready for fiberglass.

I should be able to get it in a couple of weeks and I'll throw some pictures up so y'all can see for yourself what an idiot I am.
