John, Great subject matter and you're real close to the point of origin and demise.
On a side note John, which Company and when? I earned a Black Beret too. Nothing aggravated me more than when they decided everybody gets to wear them. Of course I have a Maroon one and a Green one so I have those to fall back on if I ever decide to march in a parade or go Postal.

Hi John,
Thanks for your kind words, they are much appreciated. I am in no way giving up on the project, but because It is a steep learning curve, didn't want to feel rushed.
I have my nose in some further research & playing with techiques, as things like the Boats will have to be scratchbuilt, and that is a first for me.
Will of course update on practical progress
thanks again for your support

I am glad you decided to stick with us Simon. Like the others I want to see your finished ship. I am glad that you and the others are plugging along on your projects. I don't want something like a deadline keeping you from finishing. I will just make it an open ended finish date so that everyone can finish.
Thank you everyone for your interest in this campaign.

anyone got a recommendation for a resin ironclad suitable for someone new to resin. I dont want to have to rebuild the whole ship a la Jim Bowman just to get an accurate model. Any ideas?
I have several that are just what you are looking for and lots more ironclads. The 1/192 scale Manassas, Neuse, Albemarle and Chicora are all an easy build with very little photo etch, and scratch building required. Check out my web site by clicking on the banner ad at the left of the page. I hope you guys post photos.

Hello all,
Randy has ask for an extension for this campaign going into 2012, So how about November 30,2012 that way it will give you over a year to get done and if the Mayan's are right the world should blow up 21 days later.
Let me know if that is OK with you all,
Cheers,
Bruce
EDIT: Extension appoved new end date December 31, 2012.

Well that should give all enlistees a chance to finish their projects.

That's okay Bruce, breaking the rules makes it a lot more fun!!!!!
Your project is coming along great John. Thank you for the in-progress photos. I am glad that the extension will help out as well.
I had originally thought of just sticking with the original end date. But then I figured that since it is a small group of enlistees I didn't want anybody that was taking part to not be able to finish.
Thanks everyone,
Randy

Hi Warren
The HMVS Cereberus would fine. Hopefully you will enlist and take part. There is over a year now until the finish date. So please join up.
I had never heard of the HMVS Cereberus before. So I did some reading about it. I hope the project to restore it goes well. I hate seeing history just rusting away.
Thanks for the interest.

Check out my web site (see banner to the right). I have several 1/192 scale ironclads that are quite easy to build and are perfect for folks new to multi-media kits. I include a brief "how to" work with multi-media kits with all my kits.
FWIW, I am VERY close to introducing a Confederate Mortar barge kit in 1/32 scale.

Time for my monthly check in to see how everyone is coming with their projects.
Here is a little inspiration for everyone.

No real progress on Thunderer, work and family commitments have vastly reduced workshop time, apart from completing HMS Manxman, very little has been done over the last three months, and not looking too clever for the rest of the year.
Hoping to get back to the workbench proper soon.

Was the campain extended, yet?
Otherwise 5 days might be somewhat short, Warren.

Last time I looked, it was extended all the way to the end of 2012. I've got this one in my long-range plans.

I went ahead and extended it to December 31, 2012 so that everyone would have enough time to finish their projects up. I didn't want to see anybody have to drop out of the campaign. I also hoped that adding another year might generate some more interest. Lots of great kits out there and now a whole year to get them finished. Hint, hint!!

Yes Guido I checked that first..
I think ships are by far the longest builds in my experience anyway. Especially if you are doing a full PE, wooden deck one..
May even get a start on the Cerberus this weekend. My first resin kit. I don't know why but I have two of them...

trail and error work on doing a waterbase
I am going to have to do that myself soon. I have two other campaign projects and they both require water. I have never do that before so it should prove to be interesting!!!! I hope that everything goes well with yours.
Thank you for the interest in this campaign everyone.
