Still need to build the bandstand and the splintermatresses.
Do any of you have an idea how to make them without useing a whole lot of magic sculp or milliput ? [Quote]

You might try laminating several pieces of thick plastic and then rounding the edges and corners with file and sand paper. I've done it to simulate stone work.

I used a round bit in a Dremel to further 'distress' the surface of the "blocks". Al

Looking good Tom,

Re the band stand and matress. I have a feeling U Models will come up with something appropriate here. They have padding for the LCM 3 already.

You could make the stand from plastic card and a frame from brass rod.

Hi Tom,

Talking U Models, it might be worth contacting Rodolfe to see what he has in the pipe line.

Al, neat Maiale.

I think i'll give it a try,the thick plasitc card for the splintermatresses.
Nice peace of stone masonry on that dio.
I'm not sure i can wait till he gets around to making the matresses.
In the mean time i've been working on the bridge/wheelhouse.

The oerlikon is also painted

I did do some work on the bandstand but that's no jet worth showing.
So till the next update.

Nice work. Did you use metal or plastic rod for the stand?

plastic , just by accedent i got a piece of 1mm rod shaped almost perfect for it.
I just ran it between my nails like you do when you wrapping a present to make a nice curling string.

One way to do matresses would be to use 'Das' modelling clay it air cures. put a Piece between two bits of wood (or whatever) the right thickness and width apart and roll it out like dough. Cut it to mattress length, smooth off the edges wrinkle or pleat with the side of a toothpick ....I've used Das for a cobble stone dock and even bow waves. Useful stuff.

Warning! There is a mistake in Step #19 of the instructions. It would have you install part 33E and two parts 10D upside down! It shows them with the slanted side up. They should be the other way around, flat side up. If you look at the photo of the turret on page 20 in the information booklet, you'll see the way they should be. I think they probably are steps used for climbing up into the turret. Al

Hi Tom and Al,

Just a question about the upper foredeck. On the boats there seems to be two strips of anti slip walkway (if that's the correct term) , as shown on these two pics. Even on the boat with the dark upper deck this seems a different shade.

Is there a reason why you omitted this feature?

Understand that not all boats will have the same finish but the anit slip area seems to stand out or I would have though been made to stand out regardless of finish? Well if that makes any sense

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Al,

For me it's not clear if all had them antislip parts.
I did a lot of my detailing of a photo where it looks like there isn't antislip present. If that is thru i have a problem because i should have removed the lines on the fordeck. That is now impossible to do .
If i haven't looked close enough at that photo i'm going to give the aera a wash with a dark deckcolour mix to get the shade in.And then there is the white star recon sign that i have seen on 1 of the photo's ,it crosses the antislip aera but is it the same structure? So question questions.

The anti-slip material is described in Allied Torpedo Boats as either rubber or a 'Pyramid Rubber' I doubt it would have been painted as that would defeat the purpose, not to mention potentially degrade the rubber if the wrong type of paint is applied.

From all the drawings and pictures I've looked at I think they strips are present on all the Vosper boats. They might have been removed at some point but thats just a guess and given thier purpose it seems unlikely.

I've got that image in a few books Tom, it does look like the anti-slip is missing, it might have something to do with fitting the Oerlikon, either when the deflection rail was added or maybe the coverings were getting damaged by muzzle-blast or staining possibly?

It's hard to tell for sure but I think you're right, there doesn't look to be any anti-slip on that boat and I can't make out the edging rail either.

Hi Tom and Les,

Thanks for the thoughts folks, sorry Tom it only occurred to me the other day when I was look at both builds. As the lines are there as you say you could still add a slightly different shade.

Thanks for the data folks.

Alan

Gentlemen, A question. In the kit, and in photos of MTB 77, there is a "Y" shaped item on the foredeck (parts 26E & 29E). I thought it was just a support for the antenna wires. However, in the photo below, all three boats have this thing right in front of the mast, on or next to, the bridge. Any ideas on what it might be?

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n44/11A_02/Als%20Boat%20%20Place/Vosper%20MTB/MTB234A.jpg :

It seems the more research you do, the more questions you have. Al

Afaik it's part of the radar or radio direction finder setup.
And when the oerlikon was placed on the fordeck it became a "target".
So they moved it to the bridge out of harms way.
