Hi there Daniel, thank you sir ! I would love to see what you with your great talent could make of this model. The LCU and LCAC are small models in their own right. It is a fantastic model and the first one evr I would consider building a second time to get everything right
cheers,
Julian

You could build all 7 Julian now that you have all their markings!!

yes, that would be pushing the enveloppe though wouldn't it? Obsessive LHD builder gets private rubber room at model shipwrights

Hello Julian, I don't think it looks like a "dogs dinner" (though I do like that phrase). There always seems to be a point in a build when it looks like disaster is looming, and then almost as if by magic, everything falls into place. I envy your ability and willingness to work with such miniscule assemblies. The aircraft, forklift, LCU, and everything else looks great. Al

Thanks for the kind words Al, things are still under control on this build and with a coat of paint the Wasp will look a lot better. As far as the miniscule parts are concerned it's a good job there is no live soundtrack to this build
Cheers,
Julian

I know what you mean, I can't have small children around when I'm building without running the risk of teaching them some very, very bad language. My son learned early on to leave the room whenever he heard the words 'photo-etch'. Al

Great photo Daniel, looks like Gusvk26 used 4 Leds in the well deck though which is more than I have planned. Not sure about the red colour either but it does give a good view of what is built inside the LHD. I see that he added the rails on the underdecks here too. Very interesting, thank you Daniel !

If I can convince you to build a LHD I will consider that a major victory Daniel
I have to be careful with the weathering here because even after major deployments or before docking they don't look too "grungy". Rust water and weathering streaks on the hull but that is about all you see in reference photos.

Have to proceed like two porcupines making love: very gently

Julian

In the last picture, the waterline looks especially rusty or weathered. I wonder how it looks below it?!

Morning Daniel, looks like they did a quick paint job at the stern on the port hull side not watching out for the boottop. Also seems to be a greenish tinge to some of the boottop suggesting the Essex had been at anchor for a long period. Just guessing here though.

Julian, I love how this is turning out. I have the same kit in the stash. Im looking forward to seeing how you do the lighting. How did you learn how to do the LED stuff? I would love to light up my Wasp kit. Is there a book, website or article you or anyone else can recommend? Thanks..

Hi Dave, glad you approve of my antics
This is my first time using LED's so it could easily come to grief

Warren is correct about the complete sets: on page 4 of this build Scott Allen put up a link to a company that sells these sets so check there,

Julian

Julian, this looks great! How did you do your rust streaking? What other weathering did you do to the hull?

Hi Thomas, nothing fancy really, Tamiya Smoke airbrushed on and an oil wash for the rust streaks. Still have to do some work on the underwatership.

Valantine's day update:
Started fitting the flightdeck edge supports, ( if anyone can tell me what these are called in the US navy please do).

The greenish tinge in the first photo is something funky Paintshop Pro did while enhancing the photo, luckily it's not on the real deal.
cheers,
Julian
