Ahoy Daniel

Truly nice work my friend.

So very cool to see it in the water under its own power.

I toast your effort with a cyber beer!

Go "Team S-100"

Cheers

Wow, 35 pages of pure insanely cool stuff. One of these days I'm going to grab a big cup of Joe and have it...read all the cool skills on this thread. You guys are just to awesome.

Btw, I guess I finally have a full bug of navel modeling...I took the opportunity of the black Friday sale and order about $400 worth of 1/350 PE detail sets and aircrafts to go with my 1/350 aircraft carriers. And, that's not all, I'm seriously looking into getting the 1/144 Fletcher Class Destroyer w/ all its PE tid-bits after seeing Dainels hog wild build. So, I'll just have to tell me family that its all your fault, Daniel

Mike, it is not good!!! His family is going to get angry with me!! Jejeje Congratulations for his purchases, it is going to have you occupied!! The Kit Fletcher is very advisable, the perfect scale for any destroyer!!! I do not understand Revell for not having a German destroyer in this scale. Hello Revell boys !!

My dear friend .... with these antennas you capture more signs that Direc TV!!! I do not know the kit but me sound to that it is Scrath!!! Also lack to you very little!!! If it does not amuse itself with 88 finish it in one to close of eyes!! Uuufff 88 ....... that quantity of pieces have these trailers!!!!

I have given the 88 a layer of Vallejo ground and have started preshading the gun itself. Also dusted a first coat of desert yellow but it seems too thin.
I will try and get some photos up this weekend before everyone falls asleep waiting
Your S-100 looks fantastic sailing in the pool. looks exactly right on the waterline too. Did you add ballast or were the batteries and motors ballast enough?

I have been doing a few campaign on Armorama lately and anyone not in their little circles of friends doesn't even get any comments. I am not sure what the problem is as it used to be very open and friendly like Aeroscale and here..

There are way too many rivet counters over there who think their tanks always have to look as though they have been at the bottom of a swamp for 10 years...

I have never seen a tank that looked like it lived at the bottom of a swamp.. I don't think the operational life of a tank in WW2 would have been very long as they were producing so many of them when they wore out they just abandoned them for a new one. Look how many Sherman's wore the 'Thunderbolt' name in Europe, all operated by the one crew.. at least 8 in just a few years.
But to each their own.. If I had noticed an aircraft looking as crappy as many people finish their models I would have been kicking asses until they were cleaned.. All this panel line pre-shading etc is totally unrealistic yet you seem to have to do it to get models noticed in any competitions etc.

Just as an aside, does anyone produce a model of any of the ships you have been on? Lots of my planes out there.. Maybe that could be a good campaign thingy, 'Vehicles you have been posted to or travelled on or flown...'. Bit hard to explain..

Models of ships I have been on? Only one and it is long out of production: The Smit-Lloyd 100 series, beautiful ships built as anchor handling supply vessels. A Dutch firm put it into production in the 70's. Not a trace to be found or would have bought it now. The models of the Smit London / Houston class are great but I never sailed on them. There has never been a model of Wijsmuller's Tempest or Typhoon. If there were I would have snapped them up too.
The Super Servant semi submersible heavy lift vessels and the Nedlloyd freighters I sailed on as an apprentice generally the same story, not available as a model.
Shame though, I would have loved to buuld one now...............

The Super's and the Mighty's had a nasty habit of sinking.
I'll try and dig up some photos tomorrow.

The Lewis guns would probably have the same effect as the German 37mm AT gun, the "door knocker"
Look impressive though, would scare your grandmother....

And I did:

This is the rather dismal end of a Mighty Servant, the Photos are readily found online:

I was second mate on the Super Servant 2 when this happened, we were hit and holed by our own cargo, a jack-up. The copy of the passport is not something you run into every day:

This was the most fantastic toy I was ever allowed to play with. First towing the Statfjord B GBS and later working the Auk and Fulmar fields:

My last years at sea were spent on board Smit Lloyd vessels:

I would very nearly commit murder for a model of one of these ships. Unfortunately they are not available.

The ship I saw on TV was carrying one of those jack up rigs. It sank as well, but on purpose..

If anyone else would like to watch it it is Here.
