Ditto from me, as a total Shipwrights noob about to embark these threads are both full of info, and scary as hell to me. Compared to my usual aircraft builds, the level of detailing here is amazing.

Cheers, D

Hey Damian, you are not alone in that observation. I who build landluber dio/vign am totally out of my comfort zone. After Al's builds (taffy3) and many phone chats with him about his P.T. builds, he kinda washed me overboard and when the 109 class boat came out took the plunge. Then of course the L.H.S. gave me an offer I couldn't refusse on the Vosper, and Al's German coastal sub got me thinkin, too much of that for sure. But practicality and historical reality eventually won out and the dio with the Vosper and coastal sub went under as many do. I realized that the Vosper would be easy compaired to the 109 so that's the one I planned to get my feet wet with. So I now have a good idea what building the 109 class boat will be like, since I have changed it alot. Torpedo tubes are gone and 2 Acc. P.T. boat sets P/U. Both the Vosper and 109 class P.T. boats will be built as early war horses that have survived with the many up grades and such. Lots of reading and research involved which I love any way. Still hopeing that Italeri will release a Higgins so I can do a real barge buster. Just love the way the 6 boats from Higgins looked with the 2 40m.m.; mean looking mothers. If I had one bearing down on me, I'd dive overboard and keep swimming. Can't weigh anchors yet as I am sooo far behind all the other builds, thanks Italeri, but work on her everyday bit by bit. Hope that when she is done I can give the s-100's a run for thier money and help keep the channel open. LOL

Flares, starshells, things to light up the action Al

Thanks Julian, It does kinda look like a thrower for clay targets used when shooting Trap, or Skeet. I could almost hear the Oerlikon gunner yelling,"Pull!". Al

Clay Pigeon shooting with a 20mm Oerlikon? You Americans terrify me at times Al,

Congradulations to all you guy's who have finished so far. Your builds have been the insperation to get this done. The 6 month delay for parts really put me behind for the campaign, so I might not finish in time but will finish her up noen the less. Any way, progress is going on bit by bit. The forward storage locker is built and need a few ribs in the engine compartment. Still looking for a Allison engine to fit next to the one I have. Amazing what you see when you open up the engine hatch. Sub assemblies are going on left and right; what ever catchs my attention when I sit at the table. Almost time to break out a rattle can or 2. I can see this is going to put a big hole in the finance department just in paint. P/U a can the other day and it was $6.73 including tax.
Julian, a question for you; on the engine room hatch, back side lower right; the rod sitting there, is that to hold the inner hatch up? or is there an other type used there.

Thanks for jogging my memory Bob, I have forgotten to put the hatch supports on. I'll post details ASAP.

This photo shows the support for the hatches:

Should be easy to scratch up.

Managed a little progress before the ball dropped. The ammo clips and their PE holders and the barrel stowage tube for the 20mm were added to the foredeck.

You'll notice a couple of oval PE covers just forward of the 'Kalotte'. Worrying about their fragility led me to shape a piece of plastic to fit inside them. It strengthened them and gave a much better bonding surface. I still need to add their retainers. Did add the little triangular PE base plates for the railings (all 58 of 'em), not quite as tedious as adding the bolts to the Vosper's Torpedo tubes, it went quicker than expected.

Using the plans I got from Bob Palmacci, I made three new ( and more correct) depression rails from brass rod.

To bend them, I made myself a jig using various sized circles cut from plastic, to get the curves. Finally, a shot of the bridge with some more Eduard PE, to dress it up a little.

It's coming along and I find that I'm having fun, so I must really be as daft as the missus claims!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Al

Jejeje do not have chance, before they throw me of house!!!! Well yesterday I received it!!!! I buy it in pre order ( FreeTimeH) in March, 2013!!!

Beautiful boxart. The very big box for few pieces!!!! Everything walks floating in.
Length cut in 2 parts, 1,06 mts is very long , I did not have a lot of time to study it but it seems to me to be correct, with very much detail thinking that are going to be replaced with PE. Eduards announces 3 set PE for February though I wait for innovations of my friend "Oto Gerza" making his version of PE .This set is very promising!!

This it was my small review

Hi Daniel,
I'm sitting in the 1st row - popcorn and coke ordered to watch your U-505 build

Due to the positions of the flood holes it's possible to build the following boats:
U-68
U-125 - U-131
U-153 - U-158
U-503 - U-512

(VOZM Uboottyp IX c)
