Not just dive, but launch torpedoes, then surface and finish you off with his BB shooting deck gun!

Way back, when I built my Vosper, I chose to display the forward hatch in the open, vertical position. This was the way it was shown in many wartime photos. Someone commented that the hatch wouldn't just be standing unsupported, but, at that time I had no idea what kept it upright. Towards the end of Julian's excellent build I'd finally had that question answered. I found out that there was a post and latch located just in front of that hatch. Julian was kind enough to email me the page from the instructions of the Griffon PE set that showed just how they looked and I was able to add this missing detail to my boat.
I just wanted to thank him and say how much I enjoy the sharing of information made possible by these build logs.

Thanks Daneil, now we need a 1/35th allied minesweeper, . Not up on what they should look like but they do look pretty good. Is it the base the mine sits on while being deployed or the sea bed? I ask because I have a dio in mind from awhile ago, and I have an inquiring mind I like to fill up with useless trivial things that wont help in life but could proably play a mean game of trivial pursute.

It can best be described as an anchor weight to keep it in position when deployed with rollers underneath to be able to roll them of the stern of the ship. They do look excellent. Just need the little horny pointy balls on top

Hey Julian, excellent. The future dio takes shape within my mind. I had Al post on the P.T. boat campaign the pic's so far for the Vosper, will try and get some on this area too. Parts got here fine, thanks very much. Now what are we gonna do about the mines you and Daniel are planting all over the channel? Will have to keep the lookouts on station and filled with coffee.

I made siome mistake with the former print requiring me to have another print started with 17 mm inner diameter, thus the torpedo fist perfektly through the tube. Perfect for later shots. I am currently in the phase of designung an counterrootating prop mechnism with 2 x 5 mm dc engine and a lipo accu. something to come next, but first the grey fleet summit in June.
See you around

Daniel,
3D printing is an evolving technology. I don't have an own printer, I send the tubes for printing. This one is done in Germany and cost about 70 € one tube. Alternatively I have send 2 tubes for printing to shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/
I expect better quality due to different printing method and mterial. It cost about 74 € a tube, but the shipping is a little expensive. Well When I get everthing back I'll make a comparison for you.
The only thing you need for 3d printing is a CAD program, other people could do already something with sketchup, which comes for 80 USD
Don't buy a printer until the technology can be operated by your grandparents, than the technology is mature ;-))

Gents I owe you some update pictures: I had my torpedotube printed at shapeways. It has been a little expensive about 10% but came with substantial improvement ind quality and accuracy. I printed 3 Parts, the tube in 2 part so I can put it through the torpedo shiel, and the hatch of course. The tube fit right into each other - excellent accuracy. Please see the pictures and judge for yourself.:

Looking very interesting Christian, expensive parts but very well made. This sort of printing is already changing add-on parts for models. In the near future it can only play an even bigger role I would think.

I agree, this will enable us to build the models with complex geometry. Expensive depends on your level of craftsmanship and available maschines. I certaily have builders in my closer neigbourhood, Turners, Millers, benders and other subject of metall handling. They would cut some plan material and bend a tube including the front. I accept this. My positions is:
I don't have a turning maschine, I don't have a miling maschine, I am not that good with metal to bend such part with the preciceness it needs for me. Therefore the printing is my opportunity to reproduce complex parts on my level of accuracy.
To this end expensive is relative. The fact that the printer even did the handlebar of the torpedohatch is think a good level of accuracy.
More to come for all Schnellboot fans, LMB and TMB mine with tolly, plus track holders for longer minetracks on the schnellie.
