Cage Aerials, second attempt.
This time no tricksy brass rod through the middle this time.
Six spreaders were set in a stretched piece of blue tack, and wires added.
five out of eight in place.
The last wire added was long enough to run from the foremast to the Jackstaff, a quick shot of black from rattlecan and it is ready for mounting.
In position.
The cage is a bit too long, slight mismeareument, and it is ins't perfect, but 1 down 3 to go.

Big Congrats on the cage aerial Si!
Perhaps the most difficult & scariest item to build in the salty side of the hobby, but you've done it justice sir!

Hi Simon
I never gave cage arials a try, looked always too fiddly for me.
Great work and patience from your side!

Thanks Keith, Plan B worked! not 100% perfect, but I am pleased it.
Thanks Tom, The etched spiders make it a lot simpler than it looks, and keeping the method simple helps.
Not that it really shows, but the net shelves have been added on the port side.
Exactly the same process as before, and the second cage was made and fitted.
not quite identical, but close enough. the stbd one needs a lick more paint yet. 2 down and 2 to go, and the two between the fore & mainmast are shorter.
More soon.

3 down and 43 to go:
sounds suspiciously like the airwing on Hornet, 4 down and 30 to go

Does a bit mate,
at least these only have two pieces each, and the davit arm will go on after the railings.

Short update, You guys have probably seen enough of the cage aerial making process. (I've had enough of it for a while )
Last two of them build and had some TS69 "Nato black" shot at them.
And fitted!!!
Not perfect, but I am pleased with them, now for a bit of medication to restore what is left of my sanity before tackling the rest of the project

Glad they are done, but although not perfect, worth the effort, and overall pleased with it.

Hi Simon,
What great work on the aerials. I know a lot of work went into that.
Are you still going display her with the torpedo nets deployed? That might be tricky with those aerials hanging about!
cheers
Michael

Thanks guys, I did indeed enjoy a few pints of black beer to celebrate achieving all four cage aerials.
Ina answer to your question Michael, I am still going to do the nets extended. I had two choices either work over the nets fitting the aerials and risk dropping something on them, or fit the aerials first. Decided as the ship will have to be fixed to the base to fit the nets it would be best to do that bit last. We will see if I am right shortly...

Those aerials are very impressive Simon, would have had me talking to myself, using language that shouldn't be heard by children. Al
