Hello Julian, You're off to a good start and I'll be following along. Looks to be an interesting build. Your missus must be as understanding and tolerant as mine. Though her first question now isn't how much will it cost, but how big is this one! Al

When you have women worrying about the size instead of the price you are winning buddy

It's been my experience with women that you're never winning, just holding your own. It's kinda like bull riding in a rodeo, you hang on for dear life as long as you can and hope you don't get gored! Al

January 31st update:

Grey paint, grey paint and more grey paint, half a jar of Vallejo acryllic grey all told to do the ground colour for the hull and the base for the hangar deck. Lots more work to be done on both items
Dry fitted the fore and aft elevator shafts, they will be a darker blue grey to blend in with the deck. Also dry fitted the engineroom trunking. All bulkheads below deck will be white except the elevator shafts:

Starting to enjoy myself now that things are really kicking off,

Hi Julian your build is looking impressive starting to get tempted to get one if I can only figure out how to get it past the Boss

Whatever you do don't try stuffing the box up your trouser leg like someone advised me with the Bismarck

Thanks Russell, you Liberty turned out a genuine masterpiece, really excellent.

Thank you Mr Sallows

yours really is one impressive build. I pointed out how big these kits are to Mrs E& there was a pause and then "the look" us mere males all know too well

Equally as impressive as your 1/200 builds is the fact you've been able to get Mrs Gremlin's approval

Julian, first off, I have followed other builds and I am amazed at your talent. One question, (trying to learn from a pro)Why wouldn't you paint the grey, then mask off and paint the red over it?

Hi Darrell,
You could do it that way round too. This is just my brand of fuzzy logic Of course there is the camouflage to figure into the masking and painting,

February first update:

Masked off the light grey parts with artists masking fluid. Sprayed blue grey over the hull. Removed the masking fluid and touched up the light grey. Sprayed the hull with matt varnish to even up the matt tint of light grey/blue grey.
Port side tomorrow.

Yes, spilling a jar of the stuff didn't really help though
And I succesfully dropped the Hornet too while trying to catch the jar Only damaged the rudder though so that was a quick fix.....................

February 2nd update:

Port side has been camouflaged as well. Boottop has been added, another coat of Vallejo varnish to seal everything in. Now to paint a load of portholes

Looks like its melting doesn't it ?
Yes, peeling paint is done by applying masking fluid with a sponge. Still needs some work but the base is there.
