Ok, but busy with work and 1:1 scale rebuild - the so called RLI or Real Life Intrusion
Going to Heiden this weekend - gonna be a great weekend!

I like your hangar bay - how dark will it be with a painted deck on ? - you can get some LED light strips to illuminate it ?

Looking absolutly fantastic so far!
Company Tetra Model Works released their fantastic upgrade set now consisting of lot of PE and brass parts ....!

Yes, real life can really rain on your parade at times, know the feeling. How dark? still a difficult choice, the flightdeck is made of matt clear plastic, (shower door style). Lets light through but that is about all. Lighting? no thanks, had those adventures with the Wasp.

Hi Julian,
I received my set yesterday by DHL (wow I was happy about it) and it is really amazing.... all the walkarounds made of fine mesh.... the armory highly detailed (I am fearing the thousands of small parts already)...
Now I am waiting for my wooden deck (Nautilus Models) to start it
No worry about having not seen it earlier - your Hornet is fantastic also without these .... I love it!

March 26th update:
Working on some staining and weathering on the hangar bay deck, (no, I didn't sneeze while taking the photos. Oil leaks would be wiped away immediately but would still leave a stain on the deck). Also fitted the center elevator bay:

Do you know if all the small airplanes were stocked on board during the Doolittle Raid?
I am thinking about adding all the small stuff in the hangar bay and the B25 on the flight deck .....

according to the references I have found the normal complement of aircraft was kept on board in the hangar. The B-25's stayed on deck of course. A nice detail is that 4 Wildcats were kept on the flightdeck just forward of the windbreaks so that they had some fighter cover in case of emergencies.
This is of course a very temping way to display the model. Do you have Warship pictorial # 9: the Yorktown class carriers? A nice reference and I also got hold of Shipcraft # 3: Yorktown class carriers by Roger Chesneau for a very reasonable price from White Ensign Models. Might be of interest to you.

yes, it is really. I was hoping the translucent deck would reveal more but it doesn't. Shame because there is a lot going on below decks.

Well yes, that is one of a couple of options I am mulling over at the moment. Would only be able to do that forward due to a sort of a rugby scrum of Mitchells parked all over the deck, 16 of the little guys................

March 28th update:
The aircraft factory is running at full blast:
This due to the test run with flightdeck support beams. Once these are fitted it will be impossible to fit the aircraft in:
Compliments to Trumpeter/Merit on this model: the fit is so unbelievably good. The flightdeck supports slotted in beautifully, no trimming, no problems................

The flight deck support beams look very neatly moulded, hope some of them will be visible on the finished opject.

As allways very nice progress you show. I'm not in the position to react on technical issues, because these vessels only impress me on visual aspects. I like the little planes that go with the carrier. Very nice and clean builds.
Good to see Trumpeter does make super kits after all.
I hear a lot people complain about the brand.
I'll be waiting for a new update...

I think it is mostly a question of what you are satisfied with. The "Men who stare at rivets" seem to enjoy ritually slaughtering new model offerings more than building them
Trumpies Hornet appears to resemble a Yorktown class carrier to me and if it is a couple centimeters off I am not too worried
