March 30th update:
The torpedo planes have been shipped. An amzing amount of work on these 8 little planes, partly because I decided to fold the wings. Doesn't look too bad though:

Hey Julian, I heard that Eduard is releasing PE cockpit detail sets for those TBD's. Just kidding, they do look good and add a lot of interest to the hangar deck. Al

Good morning Robert Jan,
I think it is mostly a question of what you are satisfied with. The "Men who stare at rivets" seem to enjoy ritually slaughtering new model offerings more than building them
Trumpies Hornet appears to resemble a Yorktown class carrier to me and if it is a couple centimeters off I am not too worried

I agree Julian: if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Have you decided what to do with that deck yet? Seems a shame to hide all that lovely work under it. Is it possible to make it removable somehow?

Looking good Julian !

Is there any ancillary equipment to go in the hanger?

Keep up your excellent work

Cheers Kev

The MK 1 Design PE set for the Bismarck did include cockpit details. They could easily be added to the aircraft included with this model

Thanks Kev,
I took a quick peek at your build during lunch at work, magic sir !
Only things included are some oxy-acetyleen sets and 6 tow tractors. Haven't looked around on line yet,

Hi Michael,
cockpit PE will probably turn up somewhere. What I really miss and I think will have to be scratch built are the arrester wires and crash barriers. The deck looks naked without them,

Hi Daniel, thank you but you called me Pinoccio with the long nose. Here you are Pinoccio because I have seen some photos of your latest U-boat build and it is very hard to beat my friend I think you can hang the towel on your nose

Hahaha what challenge to have bud!

It does seem to be "outgrowing" your workbench.

Cheers

Hey Julian, I saw this over on Model Warships.

It looks pretty comprehensive, including brass barrels, anchor chain, masts, and pedestals for the 20mm's, as well a bunch of PE. I don't know if this is news to you, but I figured that you'd be interested if it isn't.

Thanks Al, Michael pointed this set out to me a couple of weeks ago. If I had been less far down the road I would have gone for it. The safety nets below the LSO platforms are magnificent for example. At this stage I am going to continue on an OOB build. I have some other projects "bubbling under " too so I'll pass here but thanks for pointing it out to me,

Julian, it's been few weeks since I've been here and I just ran into your mighty Hornet WIP and I must say...boy o boy, this is totally cool. An Aircraft Carrier build in 1/200. That is totally cool and from the looks of it your enjoying the build. I have read that Trumpeter is going to come out with USS Enterprise in 1/200. Man, my wallet is sure not liking all these new kits

Well, a must follow along for me... Btw, thanks for posting the poster pic of 30 seconds over Tokyo...I didn't know about this movie, which I will watch soon and it's got my favorite actor...Spencer Tracy.

Thanks Mike,
the film is rather ancient but contains some interesting sequals of the carrier and aircraft.

Hi Julian,

The hanger is really coming to life with some aircraft in it.

Great stuff.

Thanks Simon,
in retrospect I shouldn't have bought this "white elephant". It is really too big to work on in a comfortable fashion. Fun, but not a sane choice...........................

April 5th update:
Giving the lady some teeth. The 8 5" AAA mounts have been shipped along with the first quad 40mm AAA mount. Also sprinkling oxy-acetyleen bottles around the hangar. Just about ready to make the stern flight deck support girders permanent.
Okay, photos:

Nice weather, time to barbecue some sateh's along with a very nice Picpoul which is chilling in the fridge.
