Your USS California is coming along beautifully. The camo is first rate. Hope I can get as clean a job with the Herrmann

Thanks Dave. It's been an uphill roll and a lot of hard work. I actually wear nitrile gloves for a lot of the work to help keep it clean. Ever tried that? It's not as uncomfortable as i thought

Great Camo Job John,
Even more impressive because of the scale.

Fourteen inch batteries in place. My grandfather served in turret #3 immediately aft of the superstructure. The turret originally had a second catapult above. After the kamikaze strike in 5" FDC, the captain had the catapult removed, trading a spotter plane for additional 20 mm AA.

And here's what I'd call the "kamikaze view." Pretty sobering.

Thanks John,
More good stuff on the camo.
A bit more progress. the aerials added to the port side and painted.

Some more L'Arsenal figures getting painted.

These little guys are very finely cast, and the way they are cast on to the block makes them a bit of a pain to handle.

even if you get them of the block intact they still need work.

I have to admit I have struggled with the wee fellas four more have gone on, and I know it is really not enough, but I am content.
The Pilot of the Hellcat watching the wings being unfolded.

Two officers on the bridge, and a weapons technician checking one of the fish.

Just the rigging and a few bits to refit.
cheers.

Si -- You've inspired me to look for some 1:700 USN figures to liven up the build. It's amazing at this scale the difference they make!

Hello Si,
I just ordered some 1/700 USN figures from Northstarmodels. I wouldn't have thought about adding figures before seeing your example. Thanks!

I enjoyed watching your build. You'll have everyone adding figures to their model ships. Great work!

Thanks Don,
I do like to add a few figures on some of my builds, especially if I can tell a little story with them.
It has been an interesting and enjoyable build, mostly... Great kit, but if I would have any criticism it would be the errors in the instructions, and few cases of over-engineering.
Cheers Si

All-star, no it's not too late to join. The Musashi is a great model, I built her for the Battshio Campaign. Welcome aboard
So, The USS Independance looks outstanding. Your wee men illustrate the story and really help bring it all together. Great Job

Thanks Dave,
The dragon guys were really nice to paint, (As are the L'Arsenal guys). I am going to try North star figures for my next Carrier build.
Hi Russ,
The decals are sealed with a couple of mist coats of Tamiya Flat clear from their Rattlecan. tested it on a bit of scrap deck, if it goes on almost dry it doesn't warp or discolour the stain, but beware of putting a wet coat on,it can make the wood warp, and leave a pale "bloom on it".
Cheers.

Simon love that Independence and the figures... not sure i have the patience for them, i think the Big ed set for the Musashi has some - has anyone tried them - i would have thought they would be a little... well flat?

Most interesting, Si. That must be some fairly porous timber that was used to make the deck, since it seems it wants to soak up what ever clear cote that is applied?

Si -- That's museum quality there, mate!
I'll let you know how the Northstar U.s. Navy figs look. They notified me the figures shipped. Flat $5 fee from Ukraine... not too shabby.

what a pleasure it has been watching your girl come together. she looks fantastic. i can't wait to post some new shots of my build- she's finally in the paint shop- i hope i get the chance to do another campaign with you. i have learned a lot from your posts and they continue to provide inspiration.
thanks very much for such a good job of documenting the process.

Hi Russ,
The wood was somewhat porous, hence misting the clear coat on.
Hi Huck,
Thanks Mate, Would be good to see the North star Figures, I have a couple of other carriers in the stash.
Hi Kirk,
Thanks, well there is the campaign starting 1st August, anything from a battlecruiser to an Armed merchant cruiser, any scale, welcome.
Cheers.

Definitely worth sealing up the deck then to protect that awesome build, Si.
