Hi Greg,
Your Tone will be welcome over on the Cruiser Campaign.
Leyte Gulf is a great campaign Dave, had some good comments on the Indy when I have had her on the IPMS London stand at shows, taking her up to Scale Modelworld next weekend.
Cheers.

Si,
Thanks. Wish we could have had more participants but even what we had it was a great campaign. Comments about Indy are well deserved. You did a great job

Thanks Dave,
I am quite pleased with her, even if the kit was a bit of a beast.
Big thing for me, having mostly built RN and Kreigsmarine, I have learnt quite a bit about the Pacific campaign. Getting quite into the USN and IJN.
Cheers

Hello everyone,
I am hoping to still make it to the finish line. October was a busy month. I was barely able to put it time. I'm back in the grind and here are the latest WIP pictures:
The planes have all been glued in place.

And the boats have been painted. I have placed oars where required but I was not able to take pictures.

Some of the crew men have been painted. These are the ones from Fujimi.

I have also crewed up the anti-aircraft and affixed the shields.

For scale reference.

I'll try to take some more photos. I have already glued the AAs and some of the boats in place. Next is to complete the search lights and affix both ladders and railings.
Thanks,
Joseph

Kirk, She is coming along beautifully. Looking forward to seeing her when she is complete. Nice job on the little boats. They really add to the overall scheme of the ship.
Joseph, your Mogami is awesome. Really like seeing the fleet added to the flight deck. Nice job on the planes. I really do want to add this to my stash. Might have to purchase it and take it out of my store inventory.
I got a chance to work on the Maya today. Will provide update photos on Wednesday. Just a few more details and she will be complete. I am ready for her to be done.
Looking great everyone, we are on the final stretch.

I am very late starting in with this campaign but I was given USS Fletcher by a friend of a friend the other week.
I do have a question in regards to the painting of the ship.
USS Fletcher is shown on July 18, 1942 wearing camouflage splotches that were popular at that time. This is an example of Modified Measure 12. Fletcher was repainted in Measure 21 later in the South Pacific.
Measure 21 is described as having All vertical surfaces without exception navy blue (5-N), which had replaced sea blue (5-S), and all deck and horizontal surfaces were deck blue (20-B). Is this correct and if so are the roofs of the turrets painted in deck blue?

Pricklehead,
Welcome to the Campaign. The USS Fletcher was not painted in MS21 until 1945. According to the link below the USS Fletcher was painted in MS31/2C in 1944.

Hope this helps.

thought i would break out the macro for a couple of shots:
deck is becoming populated:

discussing the upcoming event:

prepping guns:

thought the wood grain doesn't really hold up under the macro lens it works well from a distance- at least for plastic!

all in all i feel like i am getting close. there are still some lights, stairs radar, planes and then .... the rigging. i always feel like i could keep going on these- so many options to pursue and so many possibilities to consider, but given the nature of the campaign's deadline i don't want to push it any further- after all i still have the fuso and yamato in the paint booth.
i hope to have her complete by the end of next week- i want my ribbon!!

I will use this post to thank everyone for the encouragement and compliments to my previous posts. I really appreciate you all for taking time. I apologize that I am unable to respond in a timely manner.
Here are my latest WIP pictures. Chugging away! Radar has been completed and glued in place.

I don't think I've mentioned this in my previous posts but catapults have been glued in place

Here are detail shots of the planes on the carriages and railings

Boats and crane as well as the pagoda structure has been glued in place

Ladders have been glued in place

And finally, anti-aircraft guns, ammo and crews have also been glued in place.

Still being worked on are the accommodation ladders. These are definitely tests to ones patience! The parts are so soft and fragile. The slightest pressure and they are either deformed or broken off. I didn't give up though.

I hope to make it in time for next weeks' deadline, before Thanksgiving!

Amazing work. The crew really brings out the functionality of the ships components and armament.
Great work

Thank you very much, Dave and Kirk! I am surprising myself as well. I never thought I could get this far with this kit. Especially since this is only the second ship that I've built. I have definitely learned a lot.

Hi all,
I am happy to report that the IJN MAYA has left dry-dock and has been commissioned. I will provide photos after I return from holiday.
Down to the last week of the campaign. Congrats to those who have already finished and for those still in the yard keep after it. Almost there

Hey all,
Here are some quick photos from my phone. Better ones to come later

It is not as good as I had hoped but it is at a level I'm happy with. I attempted to rig her but after ripping the act top mast off twice I quit. I'll rengage later
So for now she will sit as is but eventually she will join a water scene showing the torpedoes racing to her port side

Hi Dave,
Congratulations! I think you did a great job on your Maya. I like the weathered look overall. It is always great to see figures included as they provide an excellent reference for scale. I have yet to try weathering on my ship models but before this, I have make my first attempt at rigging my ship using EZLine. My Mogami will be sailing soon!

Thanks

Karl,
Looking good. Out of curiosity, what is your opinion of the Eduard kits. Have been considering adding them to my store inventory but wanted to see what builders thought of them.
Thanks

Final touches. I painted Northstarmodels IJN navy pilot figures. It may not be accurate but I chose lighter shades to make the colors stand out from a distance.

If you are familiar with the 1/350 scale Northstarmodel figures, they are all molded on one rectangular carrier. Not possible to paint them. I shaved the individual figures from the carrier and then superglued them to a sprue. Here is how they look as they are painted.

Here are the pilots as affixed on to the deck

The accommodation ladders have been painted and glued in place.

And finally, additional pictures of the anti-aircraft guns, crews and ammo boxes

Last step is to install rigging and decals. I will post pictures of the completed ship tonight.

Apologies about my photos, I guess I have exceeded Photobucket's allotment. I have completed my Mogami and I have uploaded the photos to the Campaign's Gallery. Thanks Dave for a great campaign. I enjoyed it and have learned a lot!
