Si, sorry to hear that the possible corrective actions were unsuccessful.
First off let me apologize for those who helped me with the Tamiya paint question. After more research I found a 1944 photo of the USS Dace is Measure 32/9SS-B which used light grey instead of the 5D for Measure 9. I do greatly appreciate all the information you provided me in that question as I am now smarter with regards to US Navy WWII Camouflage.
So thank you.
Since I went with the measure 32/9SS-B I found light sea grey in my paint stash and moved forward with laying down the first coat. So here is the Dace with more forward progress.

I am not 100% happy as you can see the drain vents that I filled early in the build. They just now became visible with the gray paint. Another thing I have learned about resin is that it is not as forgiving as styrene plastic when it comes to sanding. As you can see in the picture the surfaces are a little rough.
Not sure there is much I can do about either issue without stripping her down completely which is not a good option.
Anyway, it is time to begin working on the bridge and prepare the Dace for her first Dive!!
As always comments, suggestions, and criticism are always welcome.

hey si- sorry to see your dry transfers are misbehaving- in all honesty i despise decals- if it were me (and i am crazy) i would use some frisket film, use the original decals for a pattern- cut out and spray. more work yes but its fool proof and the results are almost always better than decals ( at least for me)
good luck- and thanks for sharing- mistakes and problems make us all better modellers!

Despite the issues with the decals I am pressing on with the light AA.
The contents of the L'Arsenal 20mm pack.

The mounts assembled to the shields.

The two quad 40's assembled, again with scrap etch for the guard rails.

The twin 40's all guard rails on, and the directors assembled.

All the 40mm mounts sprayed deck blue, easier this way and then pain the rails and mount to match the camo prior to fitting.

The 20mm and the directors sprayed haze grey, they will get individually camouflaged to match ther surroundings as they go on.

Life rafts and other small parts shot with haze grey ready for fitting.

More at the weekend.

Si - the weapon mounts are looking great and as always your ability of throwing the PE together is outstanding.
Looking forward to seeing the Indy armed and ready for flight operations.

Thanks Dave,
Just practice, nothing more.
I am hoping to get these sub assemblies on this weekend, before I loose or break any of them.

Thanks Dave,
The Anchors, very well detailed, however to an old seaman the stocks look a little feeble for anchors to hod down a ship of that size, No real matter as they will be hidden in the hawse pipes.

And fitted, painted to match the surrounding colour and the hull number decal in place.

the six forward 20mm painted ready

And fitted.

Moe soon.

Si,
Looking good. Looks like the front railing got a little dinged.
How do the L'Arsenal 20mm compare to the Master Model 20mm?

Hi Dave,
I noticed the bow railings, I will sort that.
The L'Asenal 20mm are not as detailed as the master mounts, but they are quite serviceable. The barrel is etched, but under a coat of paint it looks ok, and they have the advantages that they are a lot cheaper and easier to handle.

Si,
Thanks for the feedback. I am looking at options for the USS North Carolina, she had 40 20mm single mounts in 1942 and Im trying to keep the cost down.
Looks like I might go with the L'Arsenal or SS Models which appear to be identical to the Model masters version but half as much.
thanks again Si

Welcome Dave.
Have got all the 20's on the Indy, plus the aircraft park around the funnels, and started on the etch on the flight deck, will post the update pics during the week.

Si,
Thanks again, I went with the SS Models version. The description indicates they are copies of the Master Models version just half the price.
Hopefully they will be durable enough.
On a side note, appears they have found the USS Independance.

Hi Dave,
Interesting article, thanks for posting. Sad end to a proud ship.
On with the much smaller Indy,
All the 20mm on

The Starboard aircraft park in place, This came from the White Ensign fret, all the structure underneath is also on the fret.

The task of getting all the flight deck etch on has started.

Lots more to go.
More soon Si

Si,
She is coming along and looking good.Your 20mm look good as does the starboard park place. What was that for anyway, was it another area for parking the planes?
Watching your build has put the Indy on my wish list. Great progress, looking forward to seeing more.

Guy's nice progress all round.
Dave, thanks for the interesting article on the Indy. Where did you get the SS models 20mm guns from I've never heard of SS models before?
Building allied ships you can't have enough 20mm's.

Luciano,
I found the ss-model 20mm on ebay. From the picture they look identical to the Master Models productions.
I should receive them in a week or two and I will do a side by side comparison and will let you know if they are a suitable substitute.

Hi Dave,
I thinks it is for parking aircraft, I cannot see any other purpose for it.
It is a challenging build, but the level of detail is very good. And she will look quite impressive when done.

Onwards,
All the etch for the arrester gear on the flight deck.

First arrestor wires on.

And the paintwork touched up.

next the crane.
The circular base has four side panels, dragon's engineering is superb, each panel has a different shaped groove to ensure correct placing.

And they fit perfectly.

The crane built, I used the WEM etched jib, paint job and it can go on.

Si, your Indy is looking great. The crane looks good. Watching you I have decided to start my USS Yorktown CV10. I ordered the Pontos set for it today
Luciano, I finally received those SS Model 20mm and they are identical to the Master Model set. They even came with a photo copy of the Master Model instructions. Not sure the durability of the PE yet but will soon. Will let you know

The crane looks good Si, I need to get a pe set for my Princeton but also look at an Indy as I want to do one of the sisters just need to check some details and see which of the two are closest.
Thanks Dave I'll take a look for them, I'll need a few for my build of the North Carolina in early 45 fit.
Si, Dave, the aircraft park was just that, it allowed the aircraft to be parked with their tails out over the side so as to create more room on the flight deck. The RN did a similar thing on their carriers although they just had an outrigger onto which the tail wheel fitted.

Thanks Luciano,
You have confirmed what I thought, I have seen pictures of the RN Carriers with the outriggers, would look great when we get one 1/350th.
Thanks Dave,
Good luck with the Yorktown, hope you will blog the build, fancy a wartime Essex with the Pontos upgrade myself.
Really pleased with the crane, was surprised how well the engineering worked, fit was absolutely perfect, seems just disappeared with a touch of Tamiya extra thin cement.

Another sub assembly under way a spraying session.
The lattice mast, The WEM set gives the option for the later style, which was fitted at the time of Leyte Gulf.
The basic structural components need a section removed as guided by the WEM instructions.

A folding tool is pretty much essential for the structural folds, otherwise the mast will deform. (evengood for the job my cheap and cheerful one from "little cars" is good for the job.

Sub assemblies going together, a comment not a criticism, the WEM instruction do not mention the searchlights going on the searchlight platform, but it is common sense.
And the basic mast assembly together.
