The end is in sight

Rigging started, hull numbers on, hull weathered and ensign staff added on the aft funnel.

Noticed on the photo of Hoel that the camo carries on round the front of aft funnel cap which is not as per the correct measure directive so just after taking the photo I've corrected this.

Signal flags sourced and two sets ordered from China should be here in two weeks.

Here ready for the matt coat.

Matt coat done.

So with the exception of the signal flags I'm calling Hoel done.

sorry about the photo quality these were taken with my iPod, I'll take some better ones with my DSLR once the signal flags are on.

Now to get back to the Eskimo

@Kirk - fantastic work, your IJN Yamashiro is coming along nicely and the add on lifeboats are a great touch. Cant wait to see more.

@Andrew - If you could let us know what the difficulties are in posting the photos I am sure we can help. Would love to see your work and how your progressing.

@Luciano - Congradulations on being the first crew member to complete thier build. Your USS Hoel looks fantastic and the weathering really brings it together. Please upload your final picture to the gallery. Here is the link:

Watching your build has me excited to start my Destroyer build, if only I could clear the decks of the other projects on going....patience is not my virtue. Cant wait to see her with the Signal Flags added. Great job!!!

Everyones builds are looking great!!!

Great job Luciano, you are a speedy builder. My Mogami build is proceeding at a snail's pace. Here are my progress shots so far. I have primed the hull with Vallejo Black.

In other news, the Musashi may have been found!

That's pretty exciting!

Joe,

Slow is steady brother, we have many more months left in this campaign so there is definately no need to rush. Love seeing the Mogami with some color and looking to see more as you move forward.

I also saw the news article about the Musashi, what an amazing find. Hope they spend some more time researching and providing pictures. Would be interesting to see what shape she is in after all these years.

hello all- i picked up an attachment for my iPhone that has a macro lens- thought i would update the build and share some detail shots:

call me crazy but in this scale the railings go on prior to paint!

pics are still a little blurry- i'll get better at them. once the build is complete though i will break out my nikon for some high def/ in focus shots

radars are on:

first round of cranes

a couple of launches

catapult

more planes

if these shots aren't driving everyone nuts i'll post some more as i start to 'dress' the boat with the myriad accessories i have. i find this one of the most enjoyable parts of the build- i see the boat as its own diorama and there are lots of stories to tell!

OK signal flags are not here yet but I thought I'd get some better photos up and put two in the gallery.

Dave thank you for this campaign, I've had fun and also learnt a lot about this point in history. I'll still be popping in on this as there are some excellent builds going on here.

I know we already have a load of campaigns in the proposal stage or approved but how does everyone feel about a Guadalcanal campaign for when they finish, we could even invite the fly boys to join us?

Luciano,

She looks beautiful in her final configuration, even without the signal flags. It was my pleasure setting up the campaign, I look forward to setting up more in the future.

I am all in for a Guadlcanal Campaign, I was thinking about one along those lines anyway especially if we can span all three areas of interest, sea, air, and land.

As far as the pictures go, check the size. If they are more than 3 MB it will say it is uploaded but will not show. I have run into that problem myself.

If that doesnt work feel free to email me the pictures and I will try and upload them into the gallery.

[email protected]

Again, beautiful job on a critical historic figure.

Good evening everyone, I did some dry fitting of the Maya this evening and thought I would share some pictures.

I apologize for the third picture, my camera has issues with focusing.

The dry fitting helped me identify some fit issues which I will need to address. I definitely need to pay close attention to what I mount before adding it to the overall ship or it could pose a problem.

Will clean up the main deck and put a wash down this week after I get the spare torpedoes and torpedo launchers done.

More to come this weekend.

Luciano, since apple is such a big deal it would not surprise me if a macbyte is bigger than a pcbyte..

Love that Maya, Dave, especially that wacky superstructure. As if the Takao superstructures weren't massive enough, they had to add even more on to the Maya! Awesome cool.

Joe / Tim / Todd,

Thanks for the comments. Even with the fit issues she is a treat to build.

Tim - I agree, the Takao's do have a wacky bridge structure and as the Maya sits now there are three more levels to add.

More to follow.
