After the long slog of the Bismarck, something a little simpler, Academy Warspite, with Pontos' first upgrade set.
Still complete, but only 3 sheets of etch instead on nine!
Here is what we've got.
Preparing for keel laying. Hull half with three internal bulkheads.
Keel laid, hull halves fit well.
The forefoot, moulded separately.
And fitted in place.
Prop shafts and rudders fitted, the shafts were moulded integrally with the brackets, but fitted well.
Destruction on the maindeck started, ready to take the wood deck.
even on the underside, supports will be repaced with etched parts.
A bit of colour on the hull, good old Halfords red primer.
Destruction done and decks test fitted, might need a little clamping but not too bad.
Cheers
Si

Hi Simon,
That certainly is a restrained set by Pontos, but it looks like it has all the key details. Looking forward to see how this develops.
cheers

Hi Michael,
well it was the very first, Instructions are somewhat basic, so it will be fun.
Might chuck in some North star 4" just to liven things up a bit.
Cheers

My only major comment is check your references carefully. There is a ton of stuff left on my frets that I just cannot find indicated on the instructions. Not sure if its general stuff for QE class or they left it up to the builder.

Hi Sean,
Always glad to have you along mate. Things might slow down a bit early August, but don't like to stand still or too long.

Hi Si!
Great new project, Mate!!
Needless to say that I'm in!! (Even though I'll be in my catching up modus for some time...)
Another project on my shelf as well, same setup - looking forward to your build!! Good start! One of the ships with the most distinctive history that I know of.
Cheers,
Jan

Small progress today
Much clamping and a little filler, foredeck and quarterdeck down.
centre deck section fitted,
Can't see it in this pic, but there is a nasty gap between the mid and for'd sections, the ends overhang the 6" casemates, which will need fixing, but the worst of it will be under the wood deck.
The first etch down, haven't got far, could get in the zone today, but it is a start,
cheers

Managed to get in the zone this afternood, and the deck supports done.
Breakwater and ladder fitted forward of the 6" casemates.
Name and door leading onto the quarterdeck.
The deck of the admirals walk and supports in place, a couple of the supports are not called out on the instructions, but they were in the right place on the fret.
And the right way up and the doors our fitted.
Ready for masking and paint on the upper hull.
Cheers

Thanks Russ,
Hardly leaps and bounds, but at least ready for a bit more paint, the '42 camo is going to be fun to mask.

I think I may have missed posting some progress, apologies for that!
Anyway, secondary armament assembled and ready for paint. the Pontos barrels are a straight replacement for the kit parts.
The hanger assembled, the pompom deck won't be fitted until after painting.
The after superstructure under way.
Done and test fitted.
Cheers

Thanks Russ,
Good to be back on her, her superstructure is somewhat more complex than it looks, especially when it comes to painting.
