Especially when they fit that well! Agree I would not fancy being there, one hit would reduce the boats to deadly splinters if they were still in their racks.

Last weekend's progress.
Boat cradles, all 20 of them.
After funnel in place, and the boat cradles painting.
Skylights and platforms over the midships secondary turrets.
First two big steam pickets hulls together and test fitted in place.
Another view, Russian sailors must have been short to fit between those boats

I don't know about your thoughts but it always appears to me when the ships boats are put on there is never quite enough space, especially on boat decks. I don't know whether it's a scale thing or what. as you say how id they sailors get between them.

Hi Mark,
For little bits that sit up vertically, I go for Gel type CA, a little line of it where the chocks sit, and sit them in place, the gel tend to bite quicker than the thin stuff.

Hi Michael,
I have wondered about the scale issue with the boats myself, especially with the steam boats like these, to get all detail in they may be slightly overscale. Boat decks do tend to have the boats crowded together, space is always at a premium on a warship. Likely a bit both.
Going to be fun getting the lashings on the boats.
Funnel rigging next though.

There are four Steam pinnaces, two are torpedo boats, and the other two are gunboats, so kits in themselves.
a heap of pulling boats too.

10 pulling boats, the instructions say build 4 of the smaller type, they are stowed on each on top of the four bigger boats. the other two are however shown fitted to davits on the hull sides.
insides sprayed wood colour.
Wash added to bring out the detail.
Detail on the steam launches, except for the weapons.
The bits of brass on the stern of the smaller pair are mounts for machine guns.
Basic paint on the steam launches.
Boat cranes on the after end of the forward superstructure in place.
More soon.

Do understand, I use the lazy method, shoot some Tamya TS78 deck tan at them and slap a wash, the hulls are all one colour so no fancy masking.

Bit of progress today.
Four biggest pulling boats, painted and on.
The steam launches armed, one thing I learned, it is easier to put the shields on the machine guns before fitting them to the tripods. (They are on the stern on the smaller boats.
And fitted in place. Very minor criticism, not a fan of one size fits all boat cradles. Not massive, just slightly below par.
On with the armament,
The barrels have been removed from the 6", but not yet from the 12" guns for replacement with Master model parts.
Replacement barrels on the 6"
Comparison on the 12 inch, the master barrels are a little more refined and crisper.
All ready for paint.
