Thanks Skipper, ah the presure to start the base lol, lol I'll cross that bridge when the time comes, like the Pier this will be a long term project, in fact I was hoping working on the boats again would get me started back on the pier first lol, lol. I still haven't sorted ot the windows for the Lighthouse , which if I cleared the decks, shouldn't really take me too long to build once I got started again!!!
Patience Grasshopper, patience, still learning as I go.
Hi Jim,
Thanks for looking, if I can get the boats loaded that will be a major step forward. I've been thinking about this one even longer than the Pier 51!!
Cheers

Hi Guys,
These are the latest 6 figures I'm working on for the LCM 3. I've put in a partially completed carrier but this is not the one I'll be using, which will be a deep wading version. The idea was for a small HQ group, radio operator, officer and a few troops. Not sure if the carrier would be better at the back but I was thinking of a Sailor up by the ramp, hand riased with a red flag waiting to signal 'Go' lol, lol
Also been working on the beginnings of a RE mine clearing team. These guys operated in pairs but I might use 3. Sorry the pics are poor, just trying out the figs to get a feel for how they might look.
On this one I also want to make a bloke carrying a bike and I have the Vickers Marching MG Team if I need to fill it up a bit more although I'd have to alter their packs to bergans. Possible some piles of ammo/stores on pallets too.
More work required, I hope to start the carrier sometime next week.

Hi Alan
The sailor with the Flag would make a good scene and also you could have him looking at the other crafts, making a connection to the other participants in the dio.
The Bren Carrier and the HQ guys / paraphernalia would make this a interesting LC... the sweepers crew would than be justified for three members - protecting the HQ

Keep up mate - thanks for sharing!

Hi Skipper,
thanks for the feedback. The ramp on this one isn't quite grounded and I believe they steered the carriers by the gunner standing up looking over the skirts (very technical lol, lol) so I was thinking a bit of interaction between him and the sailor manning the ramp. I'll have to play around with the figures and some stores when I get the carrier built to see what fits best but that's the general idea.
The RE chaps are destined for further up the beach by the exit as I have pics of them clearing this area. I was going to arm the support RE with long bayonets as their job was to mark and remove the mines if necessary.
Thanks again.
Al

Hi Kenny,
thanks, a ways to go yet. Looking at it I want to bring in some alternative figs, a RA FOB and maybe an RN signaller or two. It needs a bit more variety in the mix of figs, a little O group going on in the rear or something.. There was such a group attatched to 48 RM Commando so it would be fine to introduce it.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
Some more thoughts on the figs for the LCM. I've added a couple more basic troops and layed them out where I think they might go, with a small FOB O group at the rear. With some ammo boxes and stores this new arrangement should make the boat look fairly busy. With the 3 crew in the carrier this would be a total of 19 on the boat lol, lol. The sailor up front is not the one I intend to use and there may be one more RN addition (secret item lol, lol)
Some stores will bunch them up a bit so I may not need them all for the boat but I want it to look full. These chaps landed in the second wave when things were supposed to have been settled on the landing area.
Still a lot more work to do on them so don't worry about the finish at this point.

Hi Alan
Looks convincing - you can almost (almost) make a stop motion animation with it

These kind of details are those that make a dio stand out amongst the rest, and much in the same way as the Shaun Symonds Zebra PT Boat dio, you have a lot to look at, and always discovering new things!
Bravo Mate
Keep up
Skipper
EDIT: The Churchill Tank looks great too - I like the graffiti on it! Is it a Mk VI?

Hi Skipper and Briuce,
Thanks for the encouragement and feedback. To keep a Naval flavour to the post here's a couple of poor pics of the RN Wireless Operator I'm working on. BTW, space permitting and if I ever find a good tank commander for the AVRE it will be on the beach on the LHS of the dio: This carrier is for other purposes.

Cheers
