Luciano,

Nice haul. I want to thank you for the recommendation of Neptune's Inferno, it is an incredible book. I now have a deep seated desire to build a US Cruiser but will wait a bit.

thanks again.

Glad you like the book Dave, I'm still reading my copy in fact I've only just got past the sinking of Nasty Asty which has made me even more want too complete the ship for my campaign.

Great read after 'Last stand of the tin can sailors'

Hi all,

Luciano, the book finally finished. A great read that I could not put down. Now I am reading "Japanese Destoyer Captain". So far a great read also.

Well the postman delivered some goodies on Friday. The Graf Spee to add to the stash and some L'Arsenal 1.1 Quads for the USS North Carolina.

The 1.1 quads are a little on the small side, will definitely require delicate handling. Good thing the North Carolina only had four.

Very nice Dave, I need a Graf Spee to go with my Achilles.

I haven't been able to do any modelling for a few weeks but I have opened the wallet in an anticipation of the upcoming campaigns and in the process doubled my boat stash.

Inspired by the challenge Dave has had with Maya I have got one potentailly for the Cruiser Campaign. Whether I go as far as the excellent build in progress depends on the stalled Mikasa. But you get plenty for your money i.e. cheap from HLJ

And for the Silent Service campaign this from Amazon (who have some amazing bargains from time to time)

cheers

Michael,

Great selection with the IJN Maya. It is a great kit. There are some fit issues but nothing that cant be overcome. A little caution with the FlyHawk kit, it is missing some items but nothing major and some of the brass is a little flimsy.

If you send me your email address I will give you a copy of the Profile Morskie plans I have for the Maya which will help out some.

Hi Dave,
I will do that. I still have a long list of aftermarket bits from your build I have to decide whether to get to bring out Maya's best

cheers

Came back from a show over the weekend with these in tow, the new Zvezda Marat, Academy USS Reuben James Special edition which I got for £20 and the Veteran models Harpoon set for only £4.

Also got 2nd place in the competition for the USS Hoel

Hi all,

Well this weekend was a bust when it comes to building but the postman delivered a package and a friend of mine who is a former LHS owner gave me some kits for helping him out.

So here are some new additions to the stash.

Nice Haul Dave,

I have the Haguro in my stash as well, great kit.

Seems to be a shortage of aftermarket for it though, unless you know better,

Cheers.

Si,

Your right about AM kits. I did see a PE kit for Myoko class cruisers but it was not specific to the Haguro. Im not sure when Aoshima stopped making this kit but Im sure that has something to do with the lack of AM Kits.

You might look into getting a PE kit for the IJN Myoko and adjust from there.

Hi Dave,

Good thought, I believe either Flyhawk or Lion Roar produce a set, will have to go hunting.

Thanks mate.

Dave nice haul especially the Japanese CA, I'm tempted by the Pola but have been put off by what I've heard. Could you post some sprue shoots including a deck close up please, I know there's an AM deck and pe so just concerned with moulded detail.

Postie brought this today:

Some more books should be arriving soon

Luciano,

The price for the Pola was right, no cash but a little elbow grease. I will crack it open and provide some pictures this evening.

Hi Luciano,
This looks very interesting. I was quite keen to do a Hood as she was built, rather than her more famous fit-out against Bismarck. Does the book have details for that period in the early 20's?

cheers

Michael, the book contains profile and plan views of Hood from 1920 and 1941 plus notes and some drawings on mods including things like the different wireless rig, layouts of the shelter deck (1920, 1938 & 1940) flying off platforms fitted to B & X turret and the later folding MK.IV Henry catapult fitted on the quarterdeck, four 32ft cutters carried until 1940 two thereafter. Did you know that although the transmitting aerial for the Type 279 air warning radar was fitted at the time of her loss the receiving aerial wasn't.

I'll take a photo or two of some pages as an example tomorrow if you want.

Hi Dave.

I have all those in the stash as well, except the Fletcher. You can get a wooden deck and brass barrels for the Pola.

Simon, I have the LionRoar version and a couple of Aoshima sets for Japanese Heavy Cruisers including a railings set. Good hunting

Hi all,

The postman was kind enough to drop off some packages for me which made me a happy man.

Todd as you can see I received the Z-32. Will begin on him shortly.

Now that this package arrived I can begin planning the USS North Carolina for the Guadalcanal Campaign. Just need to figure out how to remove the MK51 tub spots from the wood deck as they were not mounted in 1942.

Also I now have everything I need to begin working on the Kongo.

Luciano,

I cracked open the Heavy Cruiser Pola and took some shots. From what I can see it does not look bad but then again I am not an expert.

sorry about the quality of the pictures, I do not have the best of cameras not is the operator qualified to take pictures. If removing the sprues from the plastic would help let me know and I will cut them open.

well that's it for now..more to come soon.

Thank you Dave from what I can see the kit gives you enough to work with, add a wood deck, brass gun barrels and some pe then it's a good'en. I'll add the Pola to my list.

Well over the past week or two a steady trickle of books have landed at the door.

Hmmm... Any WWII French cruisers around in 1/350?

Michael, I've taken a couple of photos of part drawings from the Hood book just to give you a sense of how good they are.

I hope they help you make up your mind on the book, the series is on a whole very good and as you'll see above I've just picked up the one on the Yamato for when I get around to buying the beast.

Luciano,

that is a great haul of reference material. I need to get better at getting reference material myself. The Anstomy of the Yamato and the Kagero Takao 3D are excellent books. Both are in my library. I also recommend the Anatomy of the Takeo.

Now I found this hidden gem on Ebay. Apparently someone in Texas has had these rare kits in storage for some time and in multiples. This is the same vendor I bough the IJN Haguro from.

She posted her last 1944 IJN Takao last night so I bought that at a great deal. Looking forward to seeing what else she has hidden away.

As far as this new kit, can't wait to build it. First kit I have seen that enables you to build in either 1942 or 1944 versions. I think I am going to go for the 1942 version just because of the paint scheme.

Dave I'm jealous, the Tama is the one ship I so want to add as I built the 1/700 several years ago and so want to do the bigger scaled version.

Michael,
Glad I could help in any way.

Postie was holding this, so collected today from the post office.

Got it cheapish and also picked up some Berna clamps 2 x med and 1 x large.
