Well, any full hull could be built into a waterline if one is daring enough, I suppose. But, the problem with 1:72 submarine kits is that in most instances, producing a waterline model requires throwing away about 2/3's of the kit.

In this instance, my Type II project will be a cube-of-the-sea diorama, so I can keep the model intact.

Did you go for the Canadian Navy new one (on pre-order) or ordered the RN Isles Class?
My guess is that they different, even the price on the canadian ones are more expensive (could be a Hill Class??? I wish so, this way I can turn them into Portuguese Navy ones)

I am thinking of doing some of the subs nestled up against a tender. Or maybe the DD's at anchor in some isloated Pacific cove. Who knows.

Great pick up Jim, the sub tender idea is one I've often though about too, just a matter of a little research to get the sub/tender time lines correct.

Two shipments came through my door late last week from HLJ.

The first shipment contained new 350th releases from Trumpeter and Pit-Road and issue 30 of Model Art...







... and the second with a few dedicated PE sets for the 700th Akagi 3 decker and an air wing, not for my Akagi, but for Fujimi's Hosho...

Well, if you trace out the TROM's for submarines on the Combinedfleet.com website, you can triangulate which subs were together where.

The last thing I got in was the "A" and "B" PE sets for the Akagi. Next on the list is the wooden deck and PE set for the Ise. No Pix as I am still haivng difficulty figuring stuff out on this verdamnt VISTA O/S. Joined that eharmony thing and I am getting swamped with emails . We'll see how that goes. Mainly just waiting for the Repulse and Graf Spee to show up.

Hasegawa 1/350 Limited 500 Edition IJN Akitsushima. Resin with white metal and PE. Excellent instructions and includes the Emily from the Yukikaze (now I have two). This kit is beautiful. I'll have an extensive in-box review up sometime next week. A build log will start up after the community build ends. Thanks to my dad for footing the bill on this as a semi Christmas/ birthday present.

Center:
Nichimo 1/200 IJN I-19. After watching some of Jan's work in larger scale subs and knowing about the excellent quality of this oldie but goody, I decided to grab one.

Bottom L-R:
Some books from the used book store: The Lore of Ships contains fantastic diagrams and schematics of various mechanicals from sailing ships to modern ships. Oars, Sails, And Steam was only $2 and had nice illustrations, so I happily snagged it. Tall Ships of The World is one of those charming old books in a handwriting font with nice ink drawings scattered throughout. Lots of nice little info tidbits.

The Maru Specials mostly concentrate on the Fuso class (I'm always a sucker for those ships), with the third having more of an overview of all IJN battleships (some nice shots of the awesome Ise before conversion).

Revell 1/225 HMS Victory. I have it on very good authority that this kit is one of the best Victory kits out there. This is basically a dress rehearsal for the Heller 1/100 kit, which itself will be a dress rehearsal for Mantua's 1/78 wood plank on bulkhead monster... Thanks to my Jaclyn for getting this for me as a gift.

Howdy Frank, sure I can do a little in-box review in a week or so (after the Akitsushima). It is a really great kit. While Nichimo's 1/500 cruisers and battleships, and 30cm (box scale) items were a little spotty, their 1/200 subs, destroyers, and 1/500 carriers were pretty nice and still look good nowadays.

I got mine from HWJapan HERE... There's a short back order, but nothing too bad.

Nice additions to your stash´s gents, Dade I´m looking forward seeing your work on that I-19, is it a waterline or full hull kit ?

got these from Great models on sale.they cost between $19.00 to $28.00 each.

i am not sure about the HMS Victorious Kit.it seems to have some flaws in it.i need to do some research before i judge the kit.

this is the Dragon Premium kit,it has all the PE for it and white metal main guns.got it for $19.80 goes for $34+.i am not sure how accurate the model is and i am sure Mark will want a review for this kit.

there is a good sale over at Great Models,alot of good models that are about 10% to 25% off.just so you know.i ordered on line Friday and they arrived Tuesday,fast service.

I got this a couple of week ago,from HLJ.I think Monochrome is another alias for Trumpeter.Due to the weakness of the pound,total cost was £66.00!All in all it looks a good kit,although,I`m no expert on IJN ships, cheers Phil

I have a few to show as well, just need to take pictures. I like the stores in Japan, I just wish shipping wasn't so bad. I got two kits and shipping was more thant the kits. You could only use EMS and not SAL with those. SAL is much cheaper, but slow....
