Getting closer to done. I decided the red lettering didn't stand out from the black background. Then a thought hit me, why not sand down to the light gray plastic? I think it is much more legible. If only I had been smart and masked off the area above and below the letters before sanding. I may have to touch up some of the black above and below the letters.

I am debating whether to give the sub one more coat of Midnight Blue or just start applying the decals.

I decided against another coat on the hull and have started applying decals. Man, these are tiny! I put the depth scales on the rear fins. I think I got the first one on upside down. At first I tried to place it with my finger but it stuck to my finger instead. The decal then folded over on itself as I tried to get it off my finger and onto the fin. I managed to unfold it but it looks like part of the film got bent and might be sticking up. The second scale went on much cleaner as I used tweezers to hold the paper and used my X-Acto knife to move the decal. Nine more decals to go.

Decals all on. Only thing left is to glue the hull to the base then shoot it with Testors Dullcote. Woo hoo!

I decided to Dullcote the base and hull separately. I just applied it to the base which I taped to a piece of cardboard. I am using a nice long piece of sprue that I have whittled to fit the mounting holes in the hull and will use Liquitape to hold the hull onto it while I Dullcote it. I forgot the wear a glove and face mask when doing the base but will do so for the hull.

One thing I never thought about is how do you tell you've covered enough with a clear coat? I mean it's clear, right? Hmm.

Hull and base have been clear coated (I hope). The sprue holding the hull didn't hold it very well while drying so I had to transfer it to another sub stand. All that is left is to glue the base and hull together. It certainly looks a lot better than before.

This is the first model I've completed in 2 years and the first time I completed one before the campaign deadline.

This is cutting it close, but I was able to rebuild my ISW/Commanders 1/350 USS Monitor. The acrylic gel for the water is still drying, but the ship itself is completed. I had to make 2 new "stacks", 2 intake vents, a turret covering, flagstaff, and jackstaff. I closed off one of the gun ports (reloading procedure), added the cable that encircled the top of the turret (I don't know what this was used for, but it's in the photos!), added a ladder to the turret top, drilled out the openings in the deck (were they for interior lighting?), and added flags (they have way too many stars, but I didn't have any CW era flags.)

I'll add more In Process photos to my album and post some on this forum if anyone is interested.

Thanks for letting me have fun while I "cleared the bench" a bit!

Daniel Chavez

Hello All.
I missed the end of this campaign. I am now declaring it over. I will be awarding the ribbons tomorrow.

So you need to get you photo's in the gallery for your ribbon.

Thank you all for being in this campaign and putting up with my illness during most of the campaign.
I have seen some great work, all of you should be prould of your work and yes there will be a DryDock 2 next year.
Cheers,

Hi Bruce,

Thank you again for this campaign. I'd love to see this become a "regular" feature, if possible. I thought I was the only modeler who pushed projects to the side, got frustrated and shelved ships, failed to complete a build for a campaign, or even boxed up a kit I had brought to ruin through my own klutziness!!

I know now to keep my Pola build (Cruisin' for a Bruisin' failure) alive, even at a reduced pace! I'm your first Enlistee for the next Drydock Campaign!! And, from what I've read here, I won't be alone!

Thank you again!

Daniel

Hi Bruce,

concur with Daniel's comments below. Great campaign.

If we do Drydocked 2 - return of the unfinished ship, does that mean we will get a bar, or oak leaf cluster to the first ribbon?

Hi Bruce,

I posted pics in the Forum, but I'm guessing that's not the same as the Gallery? Would you mind directing me there?

Thank you!

Woo Hoo! My first real campaign ribbon! This is the first model I've gone all the way to putting a clear coat on in many many decades. I feel like some mental block has been lifted.

Done! Thanks Bruce, great campaign that brought me back to ships, even though my production since has stalled quite a bit...

Great to have you on the MSW team by the way and I'm glad your health is back up to normal!

Cheers!
