OK, I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive, but figured I could do this one as a starter. It's Mirage 1/400 scale HMS Undine. Going to be out of the box.

I have the worst record of finishing Campaigns, but I will give this one a shot. Here is my planned project.

Keith, good luck with those torpedoes, I gave up on them when I build my Biber.
Cheers Dave, Not a boat often seen, I will follow with interest.

Greetings one and all!
I have a shipment of six subs coming from the exotic East which should be here any day. In the meantime I have a AFV Club Type VIIC and a Hobby Boss Surcouf.
Which one do you think I should build for this campaign? Will be OOB.
Cheers
Warren

Well blow me down with a feather.
I picked up a couple of parcels from the Post Office today and one of them had the subs in it! All AFV Club and all 1/350:
1. Type VIIB
2. Type 7C/41
3. Type 7/D
4. Japanese I-58, and
5. GATO Class 1942.
But the other two will be built first, so my question stands. They were on special at Luckymodel and they cost me under $50 for the lot.

I am also considering getting the Blue Ridge Albacore. She is a rather interesting looking sub and that also happens to be my favorite sushi! (I know crazy way to pick a model subject)
I am once again going to push to build more this year. Maybe working on a couple subs will get me back in the groove.

Ahoy mates! At last I cleared my mind about which boat to build first. I'll try Flagman's Type VIIC, 1/350. A little basic, but I hope to follow with HobbyBoss Type IXC, also in 1/350 and, perhaps,Hasegawa's couple in 1/700. If I survive to such task, I've got an I-400 (1/700), a Type IIB (1/144), an A-Target (1/72)...
For now, my first work:

Daniel I know how you feel the last 6 months of 2012 were a bit of a bluur for me no time at the work bench. But it is good to have a rest for a while and get back into the hobby.
Jan that is not really that fast but those photos taken over this week just a little each day and still working on those torpedos. I have been given a good tip from one of my wing thing freinds at our hobby club to rescribe the sanded out lines looks ok for now will see what a coat of paint looks like on them

Great to see some quick starts! My entry is the old U99 by Revell. Been wanting to build this for years and this should be fun!

 Cheers

Hi All.
It may only be tiny but it took a few clamps to align everything.

And here is the conning tower before I finished it.

Fir any of you who know much about the VIIb you will see that the DF Loop is in the wrong place. It was only after I looked at some reference material I realised it was wrong. The AFV Club instructions are not the clearest I have ever used.
And here it is almost complete

And finally ready for painting.

This one is nice and simple and only took a few hours to build, even allowing for the poor fit of many of the items.
Then we get to the biggest problem I have found so far, the callout for the top colour of the hull is listed as Schlickgrau 58, which is then cross referenced to Gunze Aquacolor H-316, all well and good until you look up H-316 and find it is US Navy white.. And the same huge mistake is continued throughout their range of U-Boats I have here.Question is, does anyone have a Gunze or Tamiya equivelent for this mud grey colour? I have looked online at many sites but am unable to find it as yet.
Maybe I will just guess..

Cheers
Warren

I had a brain wave and went to Hobby Search and had a look at instructions from other manufacturers, and as I thought Gunze H-308 is recommended by others.
Solved!

Finished..

No weathering on this one, and now i look at the photos I see the flooding holes etc should really be washed. I will do it later as I have a few kits to review and the Kongo is going to take a while I think..
Thanks for a good campaign idea. When I get my Hobby Boss kits I will build a few more I think.
Cheers all

Whoa! Less than two weeks in the campaign and we already have finishers! Congrats Warren! Your shipyard's build speed is truly amazing... You sure you don't have any gremlins helping you?
So, I've started mine:

The main challenge here will be a little dio with water...

 Cheers!

Great work so far everyone.
The Skipjack was on special at Squadron, but has not shipped yet. Yesterday I pulled out my tape measure and actually checked how big 40" is. That thing is going to be a monster.
Looking forward to getting it in.
I am playing with the idea of building her as the Scorpion. Anyone know of physical difference between the two?

Thanks guys.
It went together so quickly it surprised me as well. Having got used to ships with almost a thousand parts and thousands of PE bits as well this one just seemed to be finished in a blink.
I have quite a few more subs in the stash and I actually ordered four more yesterday to see if the Hobby Boss kits are an improvement on the AFV Club ones.
The other good thing is that these kits are so cheap! I pay more for a PE set for my big ships than I have paid for all my subs in the stash.
More to come for sure!
Cheers
Warren
