The rest of the day was spent painting lockers etc. Some things seen to need painting over and over. I have real trouble with sharp edges (eg roof and wall join). I normally have to do them lots of times until I ge them right. Anyone know a fool proof way without resorting to masking tape?

Cheers all until next time
Warren

Hi Warren, looking really nice and clean! good work!

the only way I know how to get nice clean lines without resorting to using masking tape is to use, well, masking tape I know that's not much help, but I've never had much luck freehand paining.

I've heard some use post it notes, although I've never tried it personally...

For the WEM white, have you contacted Creative models Australia yet? I've always found them very helpful when it comes to supplying colour coats. BTW WEM colour coats are now sovereign hobbies colour coats

They are 'SUPPOSED' to be the new Australian distributor but that may be hard when they have only just finished negotiations to be come distributors.

Excellent stuff Warren,

The funnel looks great painted with all its bits and pieces on. I think the is the Galley funnel going up the side of it.

The Hedgehog is a work of art too.

good luck with all the lockers

Hi Warren

Fantastic work, the 20mm looks more like 1/35 or something...

As for our question why they would delete the "made in England", quite simple: While the molds may be from England, the cast is obviously no longer done in England or at least they want to be flexible on where to manufacture the models. If it says "made in ..." then it better be made in ..., otherwise you may have issues with the law. If someone sues. Which probably is a very remote risk. But as accompany if you can avoid it that easily, you better do it...

Cheers!

Hi Russell
I'm also building a Snowberry with the GLS set I'm patiently waiting for you to put the 2 pdr auto cannon together. I'm having problems with the diagram they provide you with. Pictures would help a lot. Keep on the good work. I've learned a lot from your post.

Warren,

Another great update with great example of your work. The level of detail on a ship this size has always made me leery. That being said I just bought the 1/72 Scale Revell GATO so I am going to take the plunge.

Looking forward to your next update.

It's OK Thomas I was only joking.

OK, I started the 2pdr, twin Vickers and bandstand set today. First up you build the bandstand and then the 2pdr. So you start off with a fairly large piece of brass that needs some work done on it to make it look like the actual item on the ship. Changing a flat piece of brass into a 3D part like so..

Only a few folds needed but don't forget to make the rivets before you start bending or you may be in trouble. Next up I soldered the sides of the little shed thingy..

And here is the completed product.

Then another part goes on top of the other part. This I used extra thin CA on and just squeezed it between them..

Sorry something went wrong with the site then and I had to save the incomplete blog. Will finish after the TV show I want to watch.. well I would have finished it now but when you are editing a saved piece you don't get the easy image incorporation you do with the original entry.

Cheers

OK. Back again.

Next you need to attach this piece to the bottom of the other piece.

I soldered the first part then used CA to attach the rest of it. Then I bent and attached the base of the bandstand..

And that's it!

Cheers again

Dave, yes, as Warren says, please keep a build log if you do take the plunge, so i can live vicariously in 1/72 scale

Warren,

Watching your build definitely motivated me to take the plunge and I promise you and Russell I will establish a build log.

I want to get some AM kits and have been looking at the Nautilus website for some ideas.

Now to figure out what boat I want to replicate with the build.

Your 2 PDR base is looking good. I need to practice my soldering skills, but first I need to get a good soldering iron..hmmm.

Looking forward to seeing more soon.

Great to hear Dave! Glad I have been of assistance. Hope your missus (if you have one) won't be upset...

Anyway it is time for another small update. I have attached the side shield and it's topping to the bandstand.

As you can see it needs a bit of cleaning up and I found that the solder would not stick to one end of the shield no matter what I did. I amost had one of those moments where things get damaged. But I resisted the temptation and super glued it in place instead.

Sometimes soldering can be very frustrating.

If I may advise Dave, get a good temp controlled soldering iron, at least 80W or so, and a syringe of the solder and flux mix.. h and don't forget some solder!

That's it for now. I think I may try soldering it again tomorrow with my bigger soldering iron. More heat input. Important thing to watch is that I don't melt other seams!

Cheers for now

Very neat result! I know from bitter experience how difficult it is to assemble.

Thanks Colin.

That was one of the hardest things yet. The solder just wouldn't stick to part of the brass for some reason. As I said I may try more heat, but you run the risk of popping other solder joints, Maybe not..

Cheers mate

Very good Warreni
I have the bandstand done and mounted to the rear decking. Got the two pounder almost done. Used pictures from the net. The GLS instructions leave a lot to be desired. Can't post my own pictures as my modem decided to take a day off. I'm now posting from Burger King.
Keep up the good work. With close ups when you can

This man is addicted! Posting from Burger King!

I had a look in the AOTS book and it wasn't much help either really.

I am sure it will get done over the weekend.

Cheers
