'Cutting a large part away from the gun tub' - are you talking about those 'steps' in the background? Otherwise it looks pretty good to me...

Hi Jan.

The Snowberry would appear to have a different design tub. about 5mm are sliced off one edge of the tub so it fits against the edge of the bridge deck. I will have to check my sources as well (AOTS book)

Greetings from the Adelaide Desert. No rain for weeks and everything is dry as a chip.. Just the opposite to summers in Queensland when it rains almost everyday, often in downpours.

But it is summer and I do have Air Con..

But back to modelling. Having used many power tools over the years, and having been trained in their safe use while in the RAAF I always wear some safety glasses whenever I use rotary tools like dremels. Lucky for me I was on Friday night. I placed a cut-off wheel in my Ryobi tool and turned it on. The wheel shattered, ripped the main wheel I was using off the shaft after shearing the screw holding it in place, then bent the shaft like a pretzel.

Here is the remains of the screw still in the shaft.

Something hit me in the jaw and something pinged off my opti-visor's head strap. I found bits of the smaller wheel all over the room. I had the second wheel on to take up the space due the cut-off wheel being thin and the screw a little too long for just the wheel.

After that event I got back to cutting off the part of the gun tubs I needed to remove. I then applied Mr Surfacer to the cut edges to smooth them out a little even though you won't see them anyway I don;t think. Might be covered by splinter padding.

Next I continued with the oerlikons constructing the shoulder harness thingies..

Which I then glued to the rest of the gun..

I then finished off the gun pedestals. The gun shield is not glued on in this photo but the pedestal is in place.

Then I started on three small ammo boxes..

Just a few brackets etc to fit to them. Then a larger box for oerlikon ammo magazines.

The magazines have detail on both sides.

And that's it for the moment. I was going to spend the day in the hobby room today but got side tracked for most of it .. again!

A bit of painting, a bit of glueing and then I have to wait for a few 3D printed parts to arrive before I attach the bridge to the wheelhouse,

Cheers for now

My bridge ran out of enough room, floor space to accommodate the oerlikon ammo box!

Hi Warren,

Nice work on the 20mm, they do look quite complex beasts, but well worth the effort.

You know I hadn't even thought of that mate. Might have to have a dry run to see if I can fit everything. It would have been nice to have some sort of painting guides with the GLS instructions.

Warren,

your Oerlikon is really looking great, and the amount of detail, the different ammo boxes, that'S really a very nice touch!!

Good you reminded all of us about the mini tools and dangers. Just too easy to put it aside. I have all my safety instructions as well - and I do have a pair of safety goggles sitting right next to the tools and collecting dust...cleaned them yesterday and put them before the tools...

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Simon.

I can't help but think that it would have been nice to have full resin guns if possible, except of course for some of the finer parts like the sight etc.

But I continue plowing on through the chop.

Good to hear you didn't succumb to a modelling injury Warren!

The Oerlikon's looking good!

BTW, I feel your pain-Melbourne's as dry as a dead dingo's... well, you know

Thanks Russell.

I actually got a little more work done this afternoon...

Here is one of the 20mm almost finished (sights and ammo mag needed)

Then some piccies of the two different sorts of ammo boxes..

And that's it for now.

Will be starting a new set as soon as I have given these ones a lick of paint. Won't install them until I have the bridge attached to the wheelhouse.. which won't be until I add some detail into the wheelhouse.

Until then,

Cheers

Are you going to attach a canvas bag to the guns to collect the spent shells? I didn't bother with mine but it would be a very neat bit of detail I think.

I agree with your first action not too bother, but I may yet.. That is if they actually had canvas bags on them.

Thanks Colin.

I saw that model earlier. Maybe a 1/6 Snowberry?

I am not sure if the Snowberry et al had canvas bags on their cannons though. Better to leave it off.

Cheers mate

Ha Ha! It will be well worth the effort. Something to tell the grandchildren all about.
The most important part of the build will be providing a display case and display place for it!

Thanks Colin.

Luckily for me I have my own hobby room with glass cabinets in tit I can store lots of models in. The perks of getting a little older and a little larger house.
