Wow, not quite a week away from the desk and you again produced some great updates

This is really some great looking work, and yes, lots of brass and metal of all kinds. Set up of your voice tubes and the fragile bars look excellent.
As for the compass color question, I fully agree with Si's recommendation!

Cheers,
Jan

Warren, will you be painting the deck and stanchions together? I had to paint the deck first (in oils) before fitting the stanchions as I thought this would be easier. Its fascinating seeing how other modellers approach the sequence of assembly and painting.

No oils for me Colin. Just acrylics. Yes, the decks are all painted before I attach the stanchions etc.. which i wll also be pre-painted. Then I just need to touch up any rough bits.

I will report back when I have attached the upper deck Sir.

Yep, braver than you will ever know..

Thanks Russell for that undeserved comment. I don't know about brave but you have to be very. very careful cleaning them up as they are so delicate.

Anyway, after a weekend of computer problems I am back on line and have a bit of an update.

First up, does this look right Si?

I hope so. After I finished the sticky-uppy bits on the bridge deck I started on the two wind deflectors. These were mounted on the front of the bridge either side of the part with the windscreen. The first thing I did was bend the first one the the wrong way. After moving it a few times it snapped off. Great I thought.. I then repaired it with a bracket and some solder and got it lined up really nicely, and realised it was still wrong!! I had to desolder it and try again., this time I got it right. You can see the old solder on the deflector on the left.

And a few more shots of these complex items..

And upside down..

Then I took a bit of break and soldered and glued a couple of lockers for the bridge..

Then the instructions asked for the running lanterns to be installed. I used Araldite for these.

Oh and look it looks like it has drooped a little. Marvellous. And here is a look at the front of the bridge with its first coat of paint, and sans the wind deflectors.

That's it for now. More progress over the Christmas Holidays!!

Cheers

Great work. Re: wind deflectors. I gave up after the first attempt and decided to reorder a second set and start again. A very challenging exercise. Wait until you start the depth chargers racks!

Hi Grant.

You must be easily awed then..

All you have to do is take your time and anything can be done.. if not throw dollars at it until the problem disappears.

A good example of this are the shackles I accidently melted trying to remove some super glue. Did you know diecast metal has a very low melting point? Anyway, I found an ad for 1/35 shackles that look perfect for this job.. and they are brass so they won't melt..

Thanks again Grant

Oh thanks for the good news Colin (sarcasm)

The only problem I had was self inflicted when I bent the original one the wrong way.. three times..

Thanks for the encouragement though..

Cheers

Hey guys... I love read this post. If you need a hand, HMCS Sackville is just across the harbor from me. I can snap some pictures if you need them. Keep up the good work.

Hi Warren,

The bridge is looking great, the voice pipes and the binnacles are bringing it to life.

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

You luck bugger.

I do have a few photos I would like but there is no real rush at this minute. Some good ones of the wheelhouse would be handy.

My next build may just be HMCS Sackville..

Cheers and thanks mate

Ho ho bloody ho...

Merry Christmas to all and hope you have a great 2016.

Now that's out of the way it is down to business. Having a very quiet Christmas means I got a few hours at 'The Bench' today, and here are the results of my labours..

First up I painted the front of the bridge again, with the airbrush this time, and a few bits and bobs..

A flag locker which WAS one of the most difficult things I have built..

Uprights still need to be painted. Then I painted the following bits..

Then it was time for the direction finder on the front of the bridge..

I had a couple more of the DF but they were not too good so I didn't bother with them.

That's it for today.

Cheers

hehe-that would be the same 'button' i refer to mate, but sometimes it just gets so hot, that not even that works

The man cave (garage) doesn't have one of those 'buttons' either-so no painting

You have to walk all the way out to the garage to do modelling? That was a bit short sited my friend.. My hobby room (no man-caves for me. Only nut jobs live in caves.. oh and people in Coober Pedy) is right next to the kitchen where the fridge resides.. and the freezer and the pantry and near a toilet.. I think you get the idea..

Finished the bridge supports today. Painting and more photos tomorrow.
