Looking through that last set of pics I am having trouble believing that is 1/72nd, looks more like 1/35th to me.

Extraordinary!

That anchor winch is superb. The rails around the ladder and catwalk around the...tower(?)...are beautiful.

Now if only the last few things I need to do the rigging etc would get here I would be very happy. Oh, and if anyone has any idea how to do the ropes around the liferafts please explain as I have had nothing but failures so far..

This caused me problems as well!
I can't quite remember how I went about it now. I'll need to go back to my photos record.
I did see somewhere someone suggesting using the technique of Cable Lacing but I still found that difficult.
In the end (I can't remember in which order), I think I managed to glue an outer and inner line of thread around the inner and outer circumference of the raft, and then glue separate thread loops vertically around the raft, about 8 of these. I used superglue, and allowed to dry before cutting of the excess thread. I also had some suture material that I was able to use and thread that under the loops with the suture needle and follow round the upper surface of the raft.
Its difficult to avoid the superglue staining the thread and ruining the natural look.

I also remember hiding the glued junctions on the base of the raft so you cannot see the glued areas once the raft is fitted to the ship.
Plus the other problem I had was that the raft need to be painted and varnished first, otherwise it would be impossible to paint the rafts once the thread was in place! However sometimes the paintwork would get spoiled in places.
You wouldn't think the rafts could be such a problem!

Hello again.

Time for a quick blog as I seemed to get not much done due to nearly everything being fiddly. First I installed the liferaft rack ..

Then the decals on the four inch gun. They are pretty old but still went down OK..

And I actually got around to painting the 2 pdr..

And got the depth charge davit in place..

.. and put the smoke pots in position after drilling out all the holes. And do you remember the photo of the nice brassy prop, well I went back to it and decided to clean it up a bit more to get rid of some casting imperfections..

Then just for fun I took a vertical shot,,

I also managed to get the rope wound onto the rope reels near the dinghies and installed them.

And no, the syringe is not for injecting drugs to help me get through the build but how I mix paint and thinners in the right ratios. Boring eh!

Great to see the master at work here, Warren! The photos don't do it justice just by itself, until you see shots like the vertical one, where other objects really give its size some relativity. Would be great to see some 1/72 aircraft nearby (hint hint

).

PS. I too use syringes for paint/thinner mixing to get the exact ratios required. Also find .3ml droppers work quite well when using small volumes... Anyone who didn't know better would think we've got problems

Very correct Russell (hence my disclaimer..)

As to the aircraft, I will see if I can grab one or two out of the stash of ones I built back in the 1970s. They are in a trunk that has been following me all over Australia. All the others I built recently went to a museum in Queensland.. but I will see what I can do Sir.

Hello everyone.

Time for another small update. First up I painted the prop again after my smoothing attempt..

Then, while I am waiting for other stuff to arrive I couldn't put the ropes of doom on the life rafts aby longer so I gave it a go...

One down 3 to go and hopefully they will get better. Russell, you asked for it and I found an old AH-64 Apache I built a few years ago. It was the only 1/72 aircraft I had handy..

I hope that gives you some idea of the size. I will find something else to put beside it next time it is on the bench.

You need a 1/72 figure on the ship to give a real sense of scale. These are the 'Flower Class' corvettes, hence all the names relating to flowers! most of which I've never heard of before.

That is a great display. Gives a good idea of the relative sizes, and yes, that is a Corvette.
