The fiddly bits continue unabated at Inman Slipways.
I have finished two of the life rafts and the last two have their upper. lower and mid ropes (well thread actually) glued in place. I will take a piccy or two of the later, but here are the finished one..
And sitting in place..
One item that is not mentioned in the 2 pdr and bandstand instructions, but is in the Revell instructions, is this item on top of the little shelter. Rigging instructions show a line or two going there. I have to put the support bracket on the back of it as it disappeared from the Revell sprues at some stage. I just put the gun in place and now I have to add the ammo boxes..
Then I decided to re-rig the funnel..
And put the prop and rudder in place..
Then I started rigging the main mast and bits kept coming off so I decided to make my own brackets as a single piece will always be stronger than multiple pieces..
That's it for now.

I thought I would make the most of the miracle of electrickery this afternoon after yesterdays wild storm and black out.
First I un-boxed my gains I picked up yesterday..
Yep, that tiny item came in that huge box.
Then, after I trimmed the 'ropes' from my last two life rafts I decided to paint the floors and frames..
Then I removed all the 4 in shells and holders from their sprues ready to touch them up tomorrow before I place them on the model. These are 3D printed items and have saved me from the huge tasks of trying to build the brass holders which don't appear to have anywhere near enough attachment area between the two main pieces. I have successfully super glued a few of them but never succeeded in solder one, let alone putting the tiny bracket in place. I have an idea how they could be made to work but I don;t have any of the necessary tools available for me to draft the PE frets for it then get them etched. So I will make do with the printed versions for now.
If by some miracle I get the urge to try the brass ones again I can just removed the printed ones as I use gator glue on them.

Now I know you are going to find this hard to believe but I have run out of things to do until my rigging stuff gets here.
Until then here are a few pictures showing stuff I did pver the last week. First up I got some rope on the rope reels on the fore deck..
Oh and some wire rope around the top of the gun pedestal stanchions..
Erm, and I finally got around to the 4 in shells and holders. Then a few more bits on the stern..
And some winches on the depth charge davits..
And that;s it for now.

Thanks Colin. They are a far better solution, for me, than spending weeks trying to build the brass ones. I think I have come up with a better design that would make the brass ones much easier to build, but I don't know much about CAD and have no etching stuff available.

I found some more stuff to do..
First up, I attached the ladder to the mast. This was way too long and had to be adjusted by taking 1 cm or so off the bottom. This of course broke the CA bonds which had to be re-glued..
Then I re-attached the sticky-outty thing on the funnel. I have broken this off lots of times and HOPEFULLY it won't happen again..
Key look!! Space on the desk..
While I was waiting for the ladder to dry I had a look at one of the kits I have and it may be the go.. but I do have to do the HMS Victory sometime. I have had it in the stash for at least 12 years. I have a real wooden deck for her and I will get the Dafi etch sets for it. Only problem may be the rigging as the Heller instructions are a little confusing.. and there is quite a bit of rigging..
I also have a 1/96 Revell Cutty Sark who's instructions for rigging I can understand, and on a much more ambitious note a Mamoli HMS Surprise which comes with extremely clear instructions for everything.. but I think I might do a smaller plank-on-former kit before I start this marvellous kit. I have a Artesenia Latena Scottish Maid which could give me good practice. We shall see.
Then again I have HEAPS of 1/350 and 1/72 plastic kits I may have a rest with.

One thing I've noticed with wooden modelling as opposed to PE modelling, wood is a lot more forgiving!

Port side on the 4" - I know ships and boats had all kinds of crazy or funny unofficial symbols and stuff - but what does it show? I can't figure...?!?

100% correct there.. CA is good for attaching but has no flexibility.

I think it is supposed to be Donald Duck Jan. Not sure myself.
And yes, the end is definitely in site, and I have no idea what I will be building next... probably plastic as I need a break from big PE.

Hello Warren!I was watching your build and I must say you had done a great job. It's looking very good. I also have this kit in stash and i will build it sometime when i have the time, patience and all the little goodies required to make it look better. Speaking of which, i was thinking to write you a message and then i saw Jan's question. Yes, the gun shield artwork should represent Donald Duck dropping a depth charge, but as everyone can see the decal is not quite correct. If you go here

I don't know if you can find some aftermarket decal for this or maybe some touch up with a small brush, but considering the amount of work, time and money you had put in this one, i think you should address this issue.
