I cannot find the campaign folder for this one to upload my pictures. But found the battleship and layte gulf folders.

Could anybody point me in the right direction?

Anybody that can help?

I have now finished my Halifax in Coastal Command colors. A nice and enjoyable build although the fit around the noce section and the bomb bay doors could be better. I will pay more attention to those areas in the future on my next builds of this plane.

Look out U-boots! We can see you night and day

Excellent work Jesper. It's a smart looking plane.

Perfect, thanks. Pictures uploaded.

Stephen, thanks a lot for the kind words. There are a couple of things that did not go perfect with the build, but overall I am satisfied. After all it looks like a Halifax

A bit more progress,

One item missing from the kit is depth charges for the roll off rack on the stern, nothing a bit of plastic rod cannot cure.

Just needs tidying up with a file.

All the parts for the TSDS system cleaned up and ready for fitting.

and in place.

Before fitting the boats, the funnel stays had to be fitted, in place but not painted.

Achilles has hoisted its ensign and completed it mission for the Battle of Atlantic Campaign - The Early Years.

I have tried to portray her as just post the Battle of the River Plate, looking slightly weary.

I don't have a name plate for her so have made do with a ships's badge from the local navy musuem in Auckland.

So here is HMS Achilles (NZ Division) late 1939.

Pictures also posted in the gallery.
Thanks for the all support during this build, it was much more challenging than I expected.

cheers

Thanks for the comment on the Halifax, Michael. Much appreciated.

I must say my Halifax pales in comparison to your superb build with intricate details and beautiful rigging. Well done!

Ahoy Michael

Really nice work.

I love the overall subtle paint job and can only admire the rigging.

You have done the original ship proud.

Cheers

Michael,

Great job on the Achilles, love the subtle weathering, and all work in bringing her into the right fit.

Jesper,

The Halifax looks great, nice to see the coastal command scheme..

Will update on Jupiter later today.

She came out gorgeous. I agree with SI on the weathering. Thanks so much for participating.

As for me, I'm excited I finally glued my hull halves together and the decking. I'll post images this week.

Sunday's progress on the Jupiter.

Funnel stays painted, and ladders going on. These were left overs from the Pontos Duke of York set.

Paint on the depth charges and quad 0.5" Vickers mounts.

The depth charge throwers and read use charges fitted.

Life rafts being prepped for fitting.

Michael,

first of all a late congratulations to your commissioning of the HMS Achilles, I really love that model because it's so out of the beaten track. And you built her into a real beauty!! Looking at the model and her dimensions, you get a feeling that these light cruisers were in fact quite close to big destroyers, but they were deployed around the globe and sometimes independently. Amazing! And a great model!!

Si,

very nice progress on your destroyer. Yep, Bryans idea of a destroyer campaign is indeed appealing!

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

It is quite a cute kit, a little basic in places, but nothing that cannot be fixed.

I think next year would be a good time for destroyer campaign, it has been a little while since the last one.

Jesper, Sean, Simon, Michael and Keith,

Hi Jan,
I was thinking about the size of a light cruiser and I don't have a destroyer to compare it to but from the picture you can see in the space of about 30 years a light cruiser was longer than a dreadnought, but certainly not as wide. I guess they were quite suited to projecting the Empire without the cost of a battleship.

Great comparison Michael,

Then put Dreadnought alongside Hood, Bismarck, and see how the battleship grew in that period.

Two great looking builds side by side is always a pleasure to see.

More progress on the Jupiter.

The boats were painted to match the camo scheme, so first they were laid out next to the ship.

Then painted, the small motor boat, otherwise known as the skimming dish, will be finished off once glued in place.

The davits also match the scheme, and fitted in place.

Looks a bit messy, but a quick squirt of Tamiya flay clear and a touch up, the port boats in place.

Nearly there with the starboard boats, but made an error in measurement with the davits for the motor boat, refixed in the right place, the touch up won't take long.

More soon

The small problem with the mismeasurement of the davit positions cured, and the final boat in place.

The twin 4.7" are pretty bland, so a bit of creative gizmology has been applied, brass footplates on the gunhouses, and some detail on the breach ends on the guns.

The breach ends of the guns sprayed.

details picked out and assembled.

The gun houses camouflaged, on the J & K classes. certainly early war X gun was trained forward, and thus would have been camouflaged to sit that way round. as built X mount did not train fully through 360 degrees, It did not train through the astern [position.

And fitted to the Jupiter.

I was thinking of doing a 1/1200 scale Liberty ship for the campaign, but 1/1200 is outside the scale parameters indicated on the campaign page... any possibility of amending the scale rule so I can play too?

I don't see why not. The only reason 1/1200 wasn't included was because, well, I didn't think there were any kits at the time I proposed this.

Thanks Michael,

Quite large open shielded mounts like these do need a little work, otherwise they look a little toy like.

a few bits of left over etch so go a long away to helping.
