Nice work on adding the ship's wheel Si! Looks great as does the coming together on the platform!!

Nice looking Frigate Stephen! Wish I could help on the tubs but it sounds like Si has you heading down the right road!

Hi Stephen,

I have had a quick whizz through all my references and I am not certain, mainly because the only clear views I have are of the port side, there does a look quite a gap between the 20mm tub and the bofors tub on that side, so I would reckon that is the aftermost of the two. (for the starboard tub to be aft of that it would almost be hard up against the old tub that used to house the US quad 1.1".

One thing I have learned building ship models, sometimes you just have make the best guess you can.

Whichever way you go with you will be unlucky if you are proved wrong.

Cheers

Si

Cheers Si. I had a gut instinct it might be that way myself based on what I've seen on other up-gunned destroyers (Fletcher's etc) so I think I'll go with that arrangement. I have another 2 in the box, so not the end of the world if it is wrong.

More work tomorrow and then I can make a start on painting. Should be interesting as it was apparently painted in the States in whatever paint the shipyard had which looked like RN colours!

A little progress on my Halifax. It is begnning to look lik an airplane now. Quite a bit of sanding was necessary which is often not the case with Matchbox. Luckily not a lot of details to sand away

More to follw soon.

Jesper it looks like you are making good progress with the Halifax. There are also some other great builds going on.

I have been trying to find time between the 4" brush and putty knife to use the airbrush and a no.11 blade to make some progress on Achilles.
This is where she stands after a lot of incremental efforts over the last month.

The link that Simon provided (I still haven't figured out if that was a blessing or a curse) but it has lead to some changes and modifications. The forepeak was originally light grey 507C with dark iron anchor chains but the photos show a dark grey, I guess 507A with the chains in hull colour. The anchors should be hull colour as well but the kit doesn't have any useable ones so I will make some.

I also scratch a spotting top, again the photos show it but its not in the kit.

The mainmast is ready pre-rigged to go in but some of the key anchor points for the rigging are on a framework attached to the funnel so I will make that before I install the mast.

The Walrus is done. It is a Trumpeter version, again sadly the kit piece was not upto scratch so easier to use an existing one.

The crane is ready but needs some rigging. The rear mast was ready but closer examination of those photos for rigging show a yardarm? extending from the mast at 45 deg to the rear so I will add that as well.

I think I am not far off with this. The key elements missing are anchors and the three quad .50 cal guns. Unfortunately WEM closed down just at the wrong time to get these so I may have a go or wait to some become available.

cheers

Michael

Looking really good Michael.

The detail on the tubes looks really good in place.

Ahoy Michael

Superb effort thus far on the ship and no doubt the house painting.

You are shaming me on both fronts.

Well done thus far.

Cheers

Thanks Simon and Sean.

I am very happy with the way the torpedo tubes came out. Definitely worth the effort and the learning.

On the house painting I am not so sure Sean. Progressive is slower than desired i.e. it s a much bigger job than I anticipated, bit like Achilles.

cheers

The Pompom parts, fairly basic, but adequate.

The pompom, along with Director Control Tower, the Paravane winch and the rangefinder position sprayed.

The pompom platform with the carley floats painted and washed, some paddles added and the lashings under way.

detail painting on the pompom done..

The pompom fitted to the platform, railings on and coated with micro Krystal Klear to replace the canvas dodgers over which the splinter padding will be fitted.

Same job done of on the searchlight platform / after steering position.

Hi Todd and Keith, thanks for the kind comments, and Keith your Z25 is looking pretty special.

So I fixed my rear mast and added its rear yard.

What I wanted to do was pre-rig them because with the Dreadnought I found it very difficult to attach the rigging points once the mast was in place. May be that was because the styrene was so soft which didn't help but with the rigging now all attached all I have to do is untangle them.

With the foremast I noticed a couple of the rigging points were to frameworks on the mast, so I made a couple up.

I hope they can handle the tension!

While waiting for those to stick, I have added the crane and some of the ship's boats.

Its getting close now, install the masts, railings, one more searchlight platform and a couple of boats on the gun deck, that's with existing supplies. I wonder if they qualify as doodads!
Still working on finding some anchors and the three quad 50 cals.

cheers

A small update on the Jupiter, real got in the way a bit this weekend.

The splinter padding going on the pompom platform, it should not be totally straight, it was just lashed on to the railings.

The pompom platform finished and place.

The splinter padding just needs painting to match the camo, and a wash to bring out the detail.

Same done to the searchlight platform / emergency conning position.

more soon.
