This campaign has surfaced! This campaign runs from November 1st 2015 to November 1st November 1st 2016

For those not yet signed up or are interested in doing so, follow this link for description, rules and sign-up.

I'm starting with the first submarine used in combat.

I'll follow-up with a parts and date shot.

Also, here's a site put together by USN Captain(Ret) Brayton Harris that covers submarine development from the begining.

A number of years ago I built AFV's I-19 to the ready to paint stage then spilled a bottle of "Hot" glue on it. I liked the way the kit went together and how it looked so I bought a second kit and the AFV detailing kit to dress it up with. The detail kit includes a wooden deck, something that I have never worked with, so will stretch my modeling skills some.

Cam,

I have that kit and the detail kit but I'm building it for the Guadalcanal Campaign so I will be watching your build with interest.

Liking the ribbons Jeff! If I had to vote, maybe the one on top! Let's see what the consensus is!

Fine choice Cam...looking forward to seeing you slap the I-19 around! Nice pile of bling too...can't wait!!

Here is my entry for this build.
I will add a coning tower and dive planes though and do some other modifications.
And YES I will build the SQUID!

I also plan to light this.... So I need to do the interior first. With some home made PE I did.

Here is the start of the interior.
I made the PE at home I have more for the interior as well.
The roof has screens for light to come through.
I split the couch an will probably place one on each side. The specimen table did not come out as well as I wanted so depending on how much I can dress it up or not depends on if I will use it. I cut the Organ Pipes off the wall and made new ones that flair out and added the PE mirror decoration.

Here is a quick mockup of what the new conning tower will look like.

Also here is the wheel house for inside it.
This is the PE I made for it using references of Disney's sub and ParaGraphix.

I am still working on curtains for the great room or that would be done

Yes, I will try and add a spiral stair case coming up to the hatch.

Saw this on Shapeways, in case it could be any help to you. Note the curtains.

Michael,
Thank you!
That is the couch I wanted to Make!
I May still try different options. I am cheap...that is why I try to make most of my own stuff.
The curtains I will do will be pulled back. kind of like this.

Hi Dave,

Thanks, I believe the have one under way, but for a change this build is going to be out of the box.

Hi Michael,

Have been looking forward to this kit for a long time, was worth the wait, but a few things I would have preferred different.

Anyway on to the build.

This is what is in the box.

The stands assembled.

The only real issue with the breakdown is that the casing is moulded with the hill halves. The only interior detail, the hatch trunkings.

The hull halves together, after cleaning up the heavy sprue gates it went together well.

although there is a tricky seam along the port side of the casing deck.

The forward end of the casing in place.

The rudders and diving planes in place. The bracing struts were very useful for keeping everything square.

More soon

Si
