Thanks Russ,

They are fun, especially sorting out the lacking engine mounts.

And they are done. Will post the update either later this evening or tomorrow.

Cheers

Yesterday's progress.

Both Walri ready for painting.

Test fit into the hanger prior to decaling,

A touch tight, managed to wriggle it that far in. As Jan says the aircraft dimensions appear accurate, as do the external hanger dimensions (as close as I can measure). The old problem, can't mould the Bulkheads to scale thickness.

Both Wari painted and decaled.

and fitted in place.

The good old Walri business again, and another peep tail one

Looks great, Si, and you managed to squeeze her in! I'll have to check whether I am folding them correctly, since mine would not fit at all. Otherwise agree with the 'material strength problem'...

Very nice progress, and once more you are running ahead

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,

Was tricky to get the little fella in there, The hanger walls have nice detail moulded on, pity I didn't think to sand them flat, reckon I would have got him all the way in.

Even though I read your Belfast build, I forgot about your method of tucking one of the Walri to bed.

The old memory isn't what I was.

Small progress today.

Railings on the shleterdeck and forward part of the 4" gun deck. A mix of WEM tailor made for the unmodified areas, and GMM for the modified areas.

The boat deck gets the same treatment. One small criticism of the WEM set, in certain areas their railing components do not take in account Repulse is quite asymmetric in places.

Pompom deck painted and fixed in place.

WEM tailor made railings fitted.

Just the corrected 4" gun decks to be sorted, then the after superstructure can be fixed, and all the detail around it worked on.

Cheers

Well well...what you call small progress on one of your projects is more than what I accomplish on some weekends on my single one. Looks really good, Si!!

Thanks Jan,

Well, I was working on Chikuma and Cossack at he same time, so in the great scheme of yesterday afternoon this was small progress. On the upside I am never twiddling my thumbs waiting for paint or glue to dry, just do something on one of the other two.

Cheers

A bit more progress yesterday.

The after superstructure railings donem and fitted, along with ladders.

Boat deck engine room vents folded and boat racks added.

The inside was sprayed black to avoid brassy glints.

and the outside sprayed '507B

and fitted along with a forward funnel's heat-shield??

More soon

Si,

more very nice progress on this wonderful ship here!!

I hope you're not getting sick of my 'occasional' hints, but there are so many good memories still connected with this build, it's a little bit like doing all over again for myself - and by that, remembering areas that proofed to be a little tricky

I remember that the engine room vents / boat racks installation was one of those things that I had to do more than once Tell me if I am wrong, but to me it appears as if you installed them backwards:

I think I had them mirrored to start with...can't remember...

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

I don't mind at all, I will have another study of the drawings, both WEM's instructions and Raven and Roberts to see what I can learn.

To be honest I am not 100% sure they are right.

Cheers Mate

Hi Jan,

I still not sure, but according to WEM's instructions I think they are right. The proof will be when I fit the boats.

here is WEM's view, the R&R drawings don't give a lot away on the position of these boxes, and the profile Morske has so many "disagreements" with the photo's I don't trust them.

One small bit of progress, the next level of the bridge but together, awaiting etch.

Small gaps around the front have been filled with Citadel "liquid green stuff" now ready for etch and paint.

Cheers

Hi Si,

you're right about the WEM instructions! But they have been wrong more then once... In the end, if the boats fit properly, nobody will be able to tell. I think the trick was that the boats are aligned as to form a slight V-shape with their respective sterns pointing towards the catapult.

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

That is what I am planning, may be interesting as the chocks are designed for the Kit boats and will be using the ones in the Admiralty Modelworks set.

Sunday's progress.

Railings and signal platforms on the 0.5" deck.

Lower part of the bridge, with railings, and the deck house between the funnels built.

The moulded windows round the bridge, and extended round the back corners (I cannot see an enclosed bridge / compass platform that had no aft view of some kind)

Etched windows fitted and the rear section frames made from plastic strip.

The three built up superstructure units sprayed.

Everything test fitted.

Cheers

Very fine progress, Si!

I am amazed to see that you are doing this sub-assembly approach, including all railings, throughout. I'll watch with curiosity how that works for you - I am a little concerned not to break parts while assembling everything, but certainly an interesting approach!!

...well, if I remember correctly, I forgot to open up the back of the bridge. 'Never look back!! - all ahead full!!'

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,

The sub assemblies is something I just started playing with. Dis it on my USS Laffey build as she was basically one colour so it seemed to make sense.

It is bit tricky getting the brush into some places, but so far so good.

As to the bridge, the lack of the rear windows was a moulding limitation, surprised WEM's window strip did not take this into account.

A good seaman keeps an eye all round, don't want someone sneaking up behind you!

A bit more progress today.

As I have opened the compass platform windows, it needed a deck.

painted and a gyro repeater and voice-pipes added, probably wont be visible, but just in case.

The director mount on the after superstructure did not fit on the Admiralty Modelworks after superstructure without a "little" fettling.

After director and midships searchlight platform put together, the moulded ladders replaced with etch.

The after director and the vents in place, the cover over the director still needs a wash to toe down the stark white.

Cheers

Very nice work, Si!!

I like what you are doing the the bridge!! I think I added a deck inside as well, but no equipment. The voicepipes and pelorus look excellent - left overs from the North Star kit?? - I think I need one for my Hood...

Cheers mate,
Jan
