All am going to say about this update is rigging the mainmast.

Final bit left to do on this is the boom going aft for the Ensign.

More next weekend, I hope.

Cheers

Very nice work, Si!

With the 4"ers as well as with the main mast rigging, she's really looking great!
I remember that main mast - once more you did a great job with your copper works!! At that time I had not figured out the technique yet...for work like this it really pays off!! Looks really good!!

Cheers

Thanks Jan,

The 4" are a bit of a compromise, so they look busy enough without over doing them, the only thing I would like to have done is the hand rail on the left side platform, but I couldn't fin anything in spares box to make it work, apart from that I think they balance is just about there.

The old copper wire just takes practice, took me a heck of a lot of practice to make it work.

Thanks for looking in mate.

Cheers

Si

That copper wire technique is interesting. I use elastic thread specially made for rigging models. But its very thin, the copper certainly has more presence.

Can you give us a short how to? How do you get it so straight.

Looking good overall,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Thanks mate, the copper wire is straightened by placing it on a flat slightly flexible surface, like a cutting mat, and rolling it under a steel rule. I get it approximately straight, then measure the length I want using dividers. Cut and role again check the fit, trim as needed spot of superglue, (gel type works best for me) on the attachment points. and slip it into place.

If it gets bent positioning, just re role it and try again.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Some progress this weekend.

The maindeck railings, the white fairlead is a scratchbuilt replacement for one that disappeared.

The remaining boats, well the two whalers anyway. I am not sure about the other pair.

The quarterdeck. The two vents closest to the stern are a bit of creative gizmology, to hide the holes for the 20mm gun tubs pre marked in the wood deck.

Midships, The railings had to be "adapted" for the seaboat davits (which will take the whalers).

According to the instructions, there should be two boats, one on each side abeam of the deckhouses the 4" guns sit on, they are shown swung out, that is because they do not fit inboard. I cannot find them on any pictures or drawings I have, I used the lower sections of the davits to cover the holes in the wood deck.

The fo'c's'le completed, except for the jackstaff, which doesn't appear to be provided in the kit, or on either etched fret. miner technicality, should have some brass or plastic rod that will fit the bill.

very nearly there.

more soon.

Very nearly there now Si

I think this may have been one of your longest builds at nearly a year long?

She is finally really taking shape now, commissioning definitely in sight!!

Great work Si, and all your efforts pay off now - I remember well the start with a major hull-surgery!

Your Repulse looks really very good in this pretty uncommon 1936-'outfit'!

Hi Russ,

You are close, 11 months, almost to the day. Started hacking the hull around at Southern Expo model show in mid march last year, Hope to have her on the London Modellers stand this year.

Thanks Jan,

I must admit was a little nervous about the surgery on the hull (to say the least) It would have been quite an investment down the drain had it not quite gone so well!

Cheers

Si

Very nice finish with your HMS Repulse. She really looks fine, you deserve a job well done.

I couldn't tell in the photos, but is there a admiral walk along the stern? I believe the Repulse was the last English warship built with one.

Hi Si!

Congratulations on your commissioning of HMS Repulse!!

She turned out wonderful, great model and great work!!
You really deserve some on the one (stupid it's a Tuesday, or was Monday when you commissioned her, but hey!).

As Russ said, thanks for sharing your work, this was another wonderful build log of yours and lots of fun following! And all your efforts you put into her were fully worth it!!

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Mark,

Thanks for looking and for your kind comment.

I believe Repulse was built with a sternwalk, but she lost it in one of the 1930's refits, cannot remember of the top of my head exactly which one, but had gone by the 1938 refit.

Hi Jan,

Certainly lifted a glass to her.

Thanks for all support along the way, it is much appreciated.

I am pleased with the result, considering the amount of surgery involved, especially on the hull, must admit is was concerned about making the first cut.

cheers

Great build Si!
The final fitout and launch ensure HMS Repulse looks superb. And as commented before, one of you longer builds but certainly worth it in the end.

cheers

Great Repulse, Si!

She looked her best, in my opinion, exactly as you did her - in the monochrome grey that shows off her lines to such advantage. Well done sir, and, as always, your prodigious output shames me into trying harder to actually get something finished!
