Very small update,
Too hot (I know the temperatures we have in London are normal for a lot of you on here, but not for us lot.) in my workshop to do much.
Hellcat repainted.

Bit more done on the structure under the bow.

a couple of stern supports built.

Hopefully a better update soon.
Cheers
Si

Once it gets over 28 degrees inside (Usually by that point it's 40 outside) I step away from the bench, Si.
Hands get too sweaty and the optivisor slips of the forehead

Same problem with my glasses. The current warm patch seems to be over, back to the mid 20's this weekend.
Might even be able to get the windy stick out.
Thanks for looking in.

Finally got a bit more done, have decided that I will attach the 20mm platforms and catwalks before getting paint on the flight deck area.
The stbd aft 20mm tubs.
out of the box

and etched up.

In place.

First bit of catwalk.

Fitted between the tubs, with the short after section

The gab is for a an aerial mast. I am going to study the assembly of thos to see if I can add the mount, and fit the mast afterwards.
The next tub.

This overlaps the aft and mid sections of the flight deck.
More catwalk

and fitted.

More soon.
Cheers

Si,
Nice work on those cat-walks. It can't be easy getting that length of metal to bend 90 degrees easily.
Please tell I wasn't seeing things but did you change photos after the first post. I had to jump out of your post for a minute and when I came back there were new photos and others missing.
Enjoying your build.

Nice to feel like I am making progress. The etched supports & catwalks are very cleanly half etched along the fold lines, the longer ones are fully etched through in short section to ensure an easy fold.
I did swap some of the photos round, mostly because I managed to mess up what I was posting.

Hi Si,
Intrepid is looking better with each post!
A question on the hangar deck which you painted blue. Is that meant to be the same blue as the flight deck? There is no colour called out in my instructions for the deck or interior so I was wondering if that was standard US Navy approach.
cheers
Michael

Two different blues. The hanger deck and all exposed steel weather decks are Deck Blue, and the flight deck is actually a stain. Tru Color makes both shades and are labeled as above. Several other paint companies do too, including Color Coats.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Micheal,
I have used deck blue for the hanger deck, this is an assumption based on what I have read.
The flight deck was as Chuck states a blue Stain, I have the deck in the Pontos set, which comes pre stained, and is noticeably different in shade from the deck blue paint.
She is coming on, lots to do yet though, the Pontos set is a bit hefty in part count.
Always appreciate you looking in mate.
Cheers

Thanks Chuck,
As I said to Michael, Pontos deck comes pre stained.
Lazy I know, but I used one on the Indy CV22m and they do look the business.

Thanks Chuck and Si.
Apologies for interrupting the thread. As for the flight deck, Infini also provides a stained deck but with a lot of brass inserts which I guess have to be Deck Blue.
cheers
Michael

Michael: I never gave the subject of your question much thoughts as I do not build big boys at 1/350 scale, but I would think that expansion joints and aircraft ties downs would be " painted" approximately the same color at the deck "stain".
I would also think they would show wear from constant use, which is really a whole other question of just how much weathering to do.
Tracy White is the man who I would address this question to, and you will get an answer that can be relied upon.

Hi Chcuk,
When I built the CV22 I just used deck blue for the metal flight deck fittings, The contrast was close enough to the photos to look about right. especially with a bit of weathering.

The Etch is extensive, I have got all the way round the after section of the flight deck will post that over the next couple of days.
Thanks for looking in

It is mate, this set has about twice as many etched sheets as pages of instructions.

I love the quality and completeness of their etch though.

The work around the flight deck is coming together nicely.

There sure is, this is one hell of a project, and the Big E looks even more complex.
