Catwalks finished at last Si!

Good to see the main assembly coming together. Hopefully those seam lines in the deck aren't too visible later on?
PS. I see the nautical theme extends to the duvet covers?

Thanks Russ,
The deck parts fit together better than that, I did not want to risk the catwalks as the deck will have to come off for painting.
Some of the Duvet covers mate, the bedroom is next to my workshop, which means it is my "photographic studio" as well.
Mrs Duster is not always best pleased with this.

This week's progress.
The funnel interior.
Under construction.

Ready for paint.

The funnel cap needs the moulded exhausts need removing.

Done.

Interior piece fitted, a bit black on black, but it is in there.

The upper platform & funnel cap test fitted.

More soon.

Wow Si, great work on that funnel. You have so much detail going on with this build I would not be surprised if you added the boilers! Keep up the great work!

Si,
Fine job with the funnel. Shame that the cap covers so much of the PE work.

Great work as always, Si. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who will look down the tops of funnels..!

Thanks Mark.
The funnel interior shows up a lot better in real life, and it means with a relatively short funnel like that it means you aren't looking a plastic blank.

Thanks Tim.
Guilty as charged, a funnel like this one the solid kit cap does not cut the mustard and opening up would mean a void that would be way too shallow.
I do like it when an upgrade provides parts like this.

Very tidy detail on what is often an overlooked area of ship models, Si

It is that Russ,
I have peered down more than a few gaping voids in larger scale ships, even in competitions.
I do like a little funnel detail in there.

Thanks Dave,
Nice to have it in the upgrade, I do hate unrealistic voids on models, and the etched parts for this worked very well, much kudos to Pontos for including it.

A bit more work on the island.
Pontos prov1de an enlarged middle platform.

which differs from the kit platform.

Having looked at the photographs in AOTS, the kit platform looks right for Intrepid 1944.
More boring stuff I am afraid,
The structure under the bow.

The three rear centre sections are invisible when the deck is in place. I will be saving the bits that go in there for something where they may be more visible.
More soon

Very quick update,
The structure under the bow is still going down.

work also continuing on the island, it is getting interesting in places, adapting the kit and pontos parts to match Intrepid.

More soon.

the devil in the detail on USN and IJN carriers Si-the under deck supports... They always look so easy from above with their nice flat decks, but like a mirage, it fades away to be as complicated as, if not more so, than battle wagons from the same time period.
Nicely handled though my friend

Thanks Russ,
I know it is going to be worth the effort, and you are right, more complicated that a battlewagon, especially when you silly things like opening the hanger up.
This one may get a bit glacial in progress.

Too right mate

opening the hangars up is a whole other can of worms!
Not to mention the airwings that need to be built...

Maybe it's not such a bad thing that up till now there's no aircraft carrier on the market I'd be willing to part ways with the folding stuff for

This is feeling like I have bitten off a little more than I can chew. But if I take it one step at a time, it will get there....
I hope....
What I would really like on the carrier front would be an early CVE, Bogue class, the RN had a fair few, lots of variety of fit and air wings.
Cheers
