Got a bit fed up with the catwalks, so decided to get some of the armament tone.
The resin twin 5", according to the photos in AOTS she was not fitted with blast bags, or hoods.
The resin castings.
Fitting the barrels to their resin mounts.
at this point one barrel had gone AWOL on the workshop floor.
Barrels fitted to two turrets
and the etch.
The missing barrel was located and fitted, all four mounts done and ready for paint.
The single 5"
Resin parts.
one unit built.
Back to the catwalks, and maybe getting some paint on the hull.

They are nice castings, could have done with out three rounds of "hunt the gun barrel though"
Will be making gentle progress over the next four weeks, got a few thinks for have finished for the Scale Modelworld at Telfotrd 10/11 November, hope to able to fix the airwing issue there.

Those 5"look really nice Si.
Good to see they are in resin. Much easier to paint and get a nice finish than the nylon printed gear

Not tried this printed stuff yet, not deliberately avoided it, but it seem to be a little problematic, just thinking out loud, but would the auto body primers work on it? They have to stick to a multitude of different substances?
Might have to find some I could use and have a go.

To be honest, Si, in my 22 years in the plastics industry I haven't seen many paints that will paint nylon...
I did use some 3d printed nylon boats for my Prinz Eugen Build, and applied enamel paint to them. Whilst it held, it was easy to scratch off with a thumb nail.
I've since found a 3d printer that will produce resin parts! It claims they're smooth and ready for paint!
Haven't tried them yet, but am planning on getting a name plate done by them so will see how it goes...

I will bow to your experience on that one mate. I saw the adverts on the other site regarding the printed resin, looks good, but we will see.

A new company in France, Black Cat produces what look like some very nice 3D resin printed 40mm quads.
Model Monkey here in the States produces many of the Essex islands for appropriate time periods in 3D printed resin.

I have been stopping by this build as I have a growing interest in 1/350 WWII ships. I have visited the Intrepid Museum in NYC and thus am interested in your build.
I was wondering if perhaps you could lay a scale next to the pieces you are showing so I can get a idea of the size of these guns and catwalks, etc. so I can better appreciate the scale you're dealing with. I am American, but I can handle a metric ruler.

I can do that, in fact I do it when I think about it. I have 6" / 150mm rule that gives both on the same side, I wasn't built in metric, but I can work in it.
Am hoping to something done this weekend, maybe some more catwalks, but will try to remember take a picture of the 5" mounts next to a ruler too,

The Pontos upgrade comes with new resin and brass quad bofors, will crack on with those first. I have seen the pictures of the black cat gear, looks pretty good and fewer parts, especially with 17 needed for this puppy.

Simon: One of the places to visit on your bucket list should be the Nimitz Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas. It is built in and surrounds the old Nimitz Hotel where Admiral Nimitz grew up. His father owned the place.
Among their many displays is a quad 40mm. Of course there is a fleet submarine surfacing out of the lawn grass, and two beautiful models of Tennessee (as modernized) and Enterprise (circa late 42). Your Intrepid and David's Shokaku rival, and possibly surpass, the E in quality.
As I always say, you can never have enough 40mm quads. They are like potato chips, having only one never satisfies.
Chose Tamiya AS7 USAAF Neutral Gray for Ashanti's medium gray. Only available in a spray can. Should be finished the cure process by now, but I had a look about an hour ago and it looked very close to me. AS32 is one you might want to take a peek at as well. Fairly close to TS80, but again only available in a spray can.

Unfortunately no. I looked where he gave previews of a couple of his products on Steel Navy, but he gave no indication of a web site address, which I find a bit strange.
I understand that he is the son of the guy who runs "Arsenal", and I think his name is Ben.
I would hold fire just yet, in that there seems to be a dust up brewing between him and another producer.
I will keep looking and let you know.

I have had a look at AS32, I reckon that is closer to MS4, but my eyesight isn't perfect.
It is on my retirement list to do a historic ship / museum tour of the States & which would include Halifax NS, and I have now added your suggestion above to the list.

¡Ay caramba! I don't know if I could handle PE that small even with my Optivisor. My eyes have a sweet spot of about a foot away which makes it hard for me to bring things closer, and little things like that I would need closer.
