¡Ay caramba! I don't know if I could handle PE that small even with my Optivisor. My eyes have a sweet spot of about a foot away which makes it hard for me to bring things closer, and little things like that I would need closer.
Hi Shell,
I can only do it in short sessions, or I go cross-eyed. I do need a better optivisor though.
Thanks for looking in.
Cheers
Si

You are making steady progress, Si!
It interests me that you are fitting the photoetch to the catwalks on the flight deck before assembling the major sections together.

I usually go the other way around to keep from mangling the PE while manhandling the deck - but your approach is obviously effective too. Nice work!

Thanks Tim,
Used this approach on my Indy build, found it much easier to handle just the deck then the hull when fitting such fragile assemblies.

Looking Great Si. I am slightly envious that you get to keep your gun tubs from the kit. I am being challenged by Infini to rebuild them all with many parts.
cheers

Thanks Michael,
I do think Pontos have the right approach, keeping the basic kit tub and replacing the underside structure. It seams to me etch manufacturers do seem to replace parts that are more than adequate.

Thanks Jan,
seems to be a thing with Carriers, more etch than the average battlewagon. This project may take longer than I thought.

Si,
Amazing work, following along to catch some tips that I can use when I get back to building the USS Yorktown.

Si,
Watching you build all those catwalks is giving me anxiety. Im pretty sure the Yorktown has just as many.
They look great. Cant wait to see more progress.

Relax Dave,
Just don't try and do too much in one go, when I tried that Mrs Duster was seriously considering sending for the men in white coats!

I still have some underdeck structure to do.
Then on paint on the hull, aircraft and the island.
Looking forward to seeing some progress on the Yorktown too.

It is almost going to be a shame to cover it with paint.

The last section of flight deck catwalk under way.

Done and fitted.

all catwalked up.

after that lot I decided to treat myself to playing with some bigger bits of plastic.
The Island.

Most of the basic plastic pits on - etch time next.

Si,
Glad to see this kit came with other pieces beside PE catwalks. Glad to see you got the flight deck together without damaging them.

You and me both Mark,
I am glad to see the back of those catwalks, still got a few ladders down to them to add, but will leave them till I have the deck down.
Meantime aircraft, other sub assemblies, and paint on the hull.
Cheers
